Q: How do you look for an apartment in Beijing ?

I been in Beijing (in total) for about 2-3 years and I changed like 5-6 apartments. The way I found these apartments are: through the website http://www.thebeijinger.com (no agencies), 1 time through an advertisment on facebook, 1 time on on CouchSurfing (www.couchsurfing.org) groups.

I would like to know what is your way for finding an apartment. This time we are 2 (maybe 3) people and we are looking for an apartment with 2-3 free rooms.

Where do you look for an apartment ? which website ?

Do you go to some agencies? How much they charge?

some other way you used in the past months/years for finding an apartment ?

thankssSSss Smile)

If you work for a company the company you work for may have chinese workers who have lived here for quite some time and they can help you out. Just ask one of your chinese co-workers since they go through the same process that you go through but they are just more fluent and can help you look for an apartment faster than you would by searching the web and trying to do it yourself or with people who have limited experience on getting an apartment here...blush

A:Going to HK would be the best bet I reckon, especially if you were looking for a church wedding. Chinese weddings are pretty grim IMO - you go to a barren govt dept with souless officials and navigate red tape so some guy can give you a red stamp and a marriage book. You get expensive pictures taken of you both posing in places you'd never go to in everyday life that is somehow supposed to represent your wedding, then a while later it's off to a restaurant where a game show host kind of guy makes sure it's as tacky as possible while the guests eat as fast as they can so they can leave as soon as they finish eating and gave you money. Hell, I'd go to Thailand or the Philippines and get married in Paradise.   -- Stiggs
