I think it depends on your home country. From the States, the last time I extended it, the cost was 980 RMB for a short extension. Took a week to process. Pay in cash when you pick it up. Keep your receipt handy while they have your passport.

as explained above, it would depend on your nationality.  But in order to be granted, besides the application form, photos, your passport, etc, you will need to show you have enough funds locally to live those extra days requested.  In the case of persons from USA, it is about 1,000 Rmb per day requested.  It has to be either cash or in funds deposited under your name at a local bank.

 

In anything related to visas, China will charge foreigners the same amount as Chinese  are charged when requesting the same services at foreign Embassies.  this is why it is not the same amount for everyone.
