Q: Is Kung Fu dying out?
You know with the sudden emergence of MMA becoming so popular I've heard in countries such as Korea and Thailand to just name a few that there national sport was dying out because of MMA. Do you believe this and what about Kung FU is it dying out because of MMA or do you think it could be declining at all?
They fight to the death now, so they loose many fighters. If every one fights every day, then the next day there are only half of the fighter alive.
Kung Fu has been dying out long before MMA.
I have taught in two universities, and I have friends working in 5 more, both here and in Beijing. They offer Tae Kwon Do and one even offers Judo, but NONE offer Kung Fu. For some reason, they just dont teach it, a truly Chinese Martial Art, and yet they go all "5,000 years of culture" at the drop of a hat.
Go figure....
EDIT:
Should have said "...here and in Guilin."
Sorry!
Gong Fu is not 'going away' any time soon in China. The various schools are not advertising as they do in other countries. The schools themselves [building or a room] are not easy to find. Also, it is not like in other countries where you walk into a school and tell them you want to be a student.
My experience was this: first I was practicing tai ji and gong fu on my own in a park.
I was noticed and watched but ignored for a while. Then I was approached and asked if I would like to join a group practice... later I received instructions at a 'school'... a small courtyard in an alley with about 5 other students.
kung fu is a weapon. the ccp long ago made it clear that they wanted the people to be powerless and easy to control. the other martial arts they teach is mainly for show .
Scandinavian:
Sadly they do not see cars as weapons. I am pretty sure the death toll from automotive irresponsibility is far higher than that cause by people who think they are part of a 1960ies Hong Kong movie.
crimochina:
cars are weapons people use against people it is not a threat against the govt
