Your Embassy should give you correct answer. I read, USA citizens need Criminal Background Certificate when they apply for Working permit.

In Beijing, all Working permit applicants must submit CBC.

This is the correct answer.

However, some agencies may still try and request a Criminal Record Check, such as one of my employment offers in SHenzhen (Futian).  They tried telling me I needed to do it, but, I know it's wrong.

During May some countries didn't require it, but now all countries require this police or FBI check.

2 of our new British teachers from England were required to bring a police check, it had this special name, nothing like FBI, for the life of me I can't remember that name they said: SC---something, I guess.

But yeah you'll need or you'll get very lucky.

Everyone in Beijing needs one,but different Provinces different rules, new arrivals also need one,but if your just extending old resident permit for new one not always needed,I picked up my new resident permit yesterday no check was asked for during the process.

ironman510:

Was this a renewal of your working permit or a new Z visa that was turned in to a resident permit?

If you are renewing your resident permit you don't need a police check or FBI record check.

@ I only judge this by the fact that you have 705 posts on this website, telling me that you've worked here for a long time. So please make your answer to the world more clear.
