Q: Is Starbucks racist?

https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/starbucks-racism-video-remarkable-...

"On social media, many white people expressed shock. Who hasn’t ducked into a local Starbucks to take advantage of its bathroom or internet or electrical outlets? But this simply is not the experience of many black people, myself included, who know all too well the pressure to buy something unwanted or unnecessary in order to avoid added scrutiny — a Black Tax, if you will."

I'm so tired of these people claiming they're being persecuted. Why would this idiot think it's ok to walk into a business and utilize its services/premises without being a paying customer? As I go to Starbucks every day (sometimes twice a day) I see Chinese people do this too. For some inexplicable reason they think it's ok to bring outside food into Starbucks and eat it there without even buying a drink. Or just walk in  and take a nap. Chinese management does nothing, but that's to be expected. There have been times I had to run into a fast food place to use the bathroom, but I always buy something to justify using the facilities. I'm glad those two guys got arrested and I hope Starbucks continues to enforce this policy. America has gotten way to PC. It's time to say enough is enough and call these people out for trying to manipulate the system simply because of their skin color.

One manager does not equal an entire company. And Starbucks immediate response was to can the manager, CEO traveled to PHI to meet with the individuals, and Starbucks will close for 7 hours in order to conduct racial sensitivity training .

Now I do agree with you in a way. They actually did break the law, no matter what the circumstances if you're told to leave, you must leave or else.

Like you, if I go to use your bathroom I will buy something out of respect.

My parents taught me that if everyone is getting away with breaking the rule and the teacher chooses to enforce the rule on me, I'm in the wrong, no if ands or buts. I broke the rule.

But this is the entitled generation.

I think it's a storm in a teacup. I've often been told to bug off from places when I haven't bought something. That a staff member called the police because the visitors refused to leave, is not in itself racist. An overrreaction perhaps, but not racist.

Then the American police swoop in and show everybody what overreacting is really all about. If there's any racially motivated reaction to be detected here, it's those unbalanced US cops again. The black guys should count themselves lucky that the police weren't "startled" into eliminating the threat.

What can I say about this stirred-up theater? The public outrage that came afterwards?
- 1) Validates the feeling that anti-discrimination laws are excessively PC, and hurt white people.
- 2) It protects minorities from the consequences of misbehaving, and being able to do whatever you like with impunity is never a good thing.
- 3) The video footage was the catalyst for all the ensuing drama, making this a misguided crusade called by social media netizens.
- 4) The flood of emotional reactions seem to drown out any form of reason. I can't even fathom why the Starbuck's staff member was considered racist for doing her job, and even the boss goes along with it as some nonsense publicity stunt. It seems like people are linked into some alien borg-like group consciousness that just echoes the group's random choice of focus, and is nearly oblivious to actual details.

I think it sux!  Can you imagine the capital investment to open a franchise here?  I should film the local KFC, it is a hang-out for folks.  Funniest thing I have ever seen.  Big ol' group of grannies just sitting in there taking up roughly 1/3 of the tables having a shout fest (yes, I know for them that is 'talking'). This is an everyday thing here at the local KFC. Younger generation just playing on their phones, or even napping!  People bring in outside grub as often as not.  Management doesn't give a fk it seems.  All I can figure is they will do anything to not get a bad word said against them.

I haven't seen the video of incident in Philly, but every report said the same thing.  The men were asked several times to purchase, or exit.  Private shop has every right to do that.  Starbucks just lost me as a customer for deserting the manager. What a wimp PC corporation.

Not sure if they are being racist, individuals can't represent the whole business.

Maybe they just want to throw the guys who want to use free bathroom out or they just being racist. Only the staff working in starbuck knows the truth.

But it is the government's fault, I need to pay tax for whatever I buy in New York, so we are paying tax, why the government doesn't build enough public restrooms?

It is hard to find restroom in New York, most subway station doesn't have restroom, only the big station has it. Oftentimes I just looking for Starbucks or KFC for the restroom. coolI did not even try to drink a lot of water because it was hard to find restroom there. The hotels have serious staffs dressing uniforms standing there, I felt embrassed to walk in, so for sure starbuck is good choice when you are urgent.

All the US government's fault. The bublic service sucks there, many metro staffs are rude there, and the government doesn't try to build new metro system. It took me a lot of walks. most of the stations has no elevator even. Tax tax tax everywhere, tips in every decent resturant.

All government's fault. Make a change!!!!.

A:Going to HK would be the best bet I reckon, especially if you were looking for a church wedding. Chinese weddings are pretty grim IMO - you go to a barren govt dept with souless officials and navigate red tape so some guy can give you a red stamp and a marriage book. You get expensive pictures taken of you both posing in places you'd never go to in everyday life that is somehow supposed to represent your wedding, then a while later it's off to a restaurant where a game show host kind of guy makes sure it's as tacky as possible while the guests eat as fast as they can so they can leave as soon as they finish eating and gave you money. Hell, I'd go to Thailand or the Philippines and get married in Paradise.   -- Stiggs
