Q: Stereotypes: Did you buy your Chinese partner an IPhone?

I did. A second hand iPhone 5s.

The question about wanting a girlfriend without stereotypes got me thinking. Let's do a poll . Let's see if this is a stereotype, or the truth.

Have you bought your Chinese partner an iPhone?

My answer will be a bit abstract, partially anyway.  I have never purchased an iPhone for a gf, but I would given the right conditions. This brings us to my answer to your question, ...  should we (older guys who have been around a bit) indulge younger females narcissistic, materialistic inclinations even if we consider it to be a misguided action?  My answer is yes, we should.  They are young people who grew up and live in this culture/world and it is important to them at this time and if it brings them a sort of happiness/satisfaction, and ultimately has very little negative impact, I say why not? Indulge them with their whims while we can and at no great loss to anybody.

I bugged my father for my first motorcycle. I realize now that I shouldn't have pressured him to spend money that way, but I did. I had no malice in my heart and was not trying to prosper materialistically, just a dumb ignorance that told me that it was normal for father (father figures) to indulge my materialistic whims. Same with most girls with their guys,,, I guess.

No, she buys her own apple products (she now has a 5S, a 6Plus, & two MacBooks of differing ages/specs)

I pay for most of our overseas holidays though which lets her focus on investing in her small business.

i don't even like iphones. they are way too expensive than what they could offer as a smartphone. nexus phone are pretty good and are of reasonable price too. people who choose iphones all want a good quality phone, but they are either too lazy to do the research to compare the androids phones or they don't have a phone expert friends that could give them good advice.

even though 2 of my exes were phone experts and they were both choosing apple products. apple products are of good quality, no doubt. but as a marketing expert, i tend to make wiser choices. so when they offered me to buy me an iphone, i refused. as a woman who loves to eat walnuts whenever and wherever i want, i knew what i truly needed. so i bought myself a nokia.

by saying that, many chinese men and foreigners too, like to show me their pictures of them using an iphone or driving in a car. they all failed to get my attention. they should have just showed me a walnut. and i'll be showing myself as fast as the wind with my nokia.

Yes, but a few things to mention...Iphone6

Bought it in US so was cheaper...

She likes taking pictures. Iphone camera is pretty good, so I didn't buy a camera for her.

She uses the iphone more than her computer or tv, so I guess it was worth the money.

No, I have never bought any apple products. Neither has my wife.

She was interested in an ipad at one time so I offered to buy one for her. She declined and bought a (xiaomi) Mi Pad to see if she liked the idea of a tablet. Fast forward six months, she loves her mipad so I said "how about I get you an ipad?" She declined again saying that she only uses it for watching tv and youtube baking videos.

She has become crazy about baking so finds something she thinks looks great, locates a youtube step by step instruction video, heads to the kitchen with the mipad and will play/pause the latest culinary delight.

I usually get to "try" ONE then she packs the baking into little boxes she bought on taobao and gives everything away no

A:Going to HK would be the best bet I reckon, especially if you were looking for a church wedding. Chinese weddings are pretty grim IMO - you go to a barren govt dept with souless officials and navigate red tape so some guy can give you a red stamp and a marriage book. You get expensive pictures taken of you both posing in places you'd never go to in everyday life that is somehow supposed to represent your wedding, then a while later it's off to a restaurant where a game show host kind of guy makes sure it's as tacky as possible while the guests eat as fast as they can so they can leave as soon as they finish eating and gave you money. Hell, I'd go to Thailand or the Philippines and get married in Paradise.   -- Stiggs
