Q: Teachers. What is the gender ratio in your classroom ?

I was under the impression there are 115 boys to every 100 girls born in China, but by accident today I got to this article

http://www.businessinsider.com/country-rankings-of-sex-ratio-at-birth-20...

120:100, scary. CIA Factbook only reports 111:100 (at birth but 116:100 in the 0-14 years age group, which is strange)

If you teach a very gender specific class, maybe it is worth mentioning.

Anybody know a Chinese public stock that owns sex change clinics in all the provinces, I need a new long term stock for my wife's investment portfolio.

I have always been under the impression that there are roughly 120 boys born for every 100 girls. I don't really see any of these results while teaching in my college however.

Teaching English in a college in Guangzhou, I think the general demographic is 1 boy to 10 girls in the classroom. I should mention that I do teach in the foreign language department however and it could be very different in other departments.

When I was teaching IT, I had 30% girls for 70% guys. That was a better ratio than back home, where it was more 5%/95% Laughing out loud

I teach in a public high school and it depends on the class. They are actually divided into Science students and art students. The science classes tend to be more boys, but the art classes are often 75 % girls since English is an art subject, so they are often my best students.
If I take the whole grade or whole school there are only a slightly larger percentage of boys. This is likely because I teach in a very small city and families with more than one child are actually more common than one would think. I also teach at the best school in the city so generally the best student come regardless of sex and my experience tells me that girls are much better student than boys.
This being China though you can buy your way into the school and parents will tend to spend more money on boys especially if it is their only child no matter how poor a student he is

Mostly girls in English classes... the guys usually go to the English classes to pick up the girls...  well that's how it was when I taught lol.

Guys are by far much lazier when it comes to language learning... possibly in general.

When I was teaching in Uni it was about 10 girls to 1 boy.  That was because I taught English majors.  Now I am in a middle school the ratio is about 3 boys to 2 girls.  I am guessing that  has to do with the one child policy.  I hear the babies floating face down in the Pearl River have a 3 girls to 1 boy ratio.

I am not a teacher and have no students, however the 120:100 ratio is alarming. With a population of 1.5 billion people there could be potentially 300,000,000 million confirmed bachelors. It would require one hell of a war to equalize this issue.

I teach in a university in Chongqing, A levels economics and oral English. Ratio of boys to girls is 1:7. Mostly rich brats with mercs and beemers waiting at the gates after school. Most of them are very bright but also very arrogant., especially the senior highs.

I'll tell you the ratio of valuable students....  85/15.  Girls over boys.  Chinese boys are massively ridiculous.  If their role models are Chinese men then they're smack bang on target.

My college is about 70 percent female and my classes  are over 90 percent female, or more like 95. Might have 43 females to two males.

I think English language teaching of any kind in China is not a good measure of the sex ratios, even in education. Remember, China still has backwards attitudes towards gender roles, and women over 30 lose all value in people's eyes. They study (in) English in order to retain their relevance.

A:Going to HK would be the best bet I reckon, especially if you were looking for a church wedding. Chinese weddings are pretty grim IMO - you go to a barren govt dept with souless officials and navigate red tape so some guy can give you a red stamp and a marriage book. You get expensive pictures taken of you both posing in places you'd never go to in everyday life that is somehow supposed to represent your wedding, then a while later it's off to a restaurant where a game show host kind of guy makes sure it's as tacky as possible while the guests eat as fast as they can so they can leave as soon as they finish eating and gave you money. Hell, I'd go to Thailand or the Philippines and get married in Paradise.   -- Stiggs
