Q: Is there anywhere in China where you can report blatant instances of racial discrimination?

Im just wondering, since Chinese officials insist that there is no racism in China...   http://www.china.org.cn/english/China/205320.htm    ...what are they basing that on?

They are basing that on the fact there have been zero times that they have had to react to any racism.  So complain all you want, they are not going to do anything; that way their number will remain zero.

Plus ancient Chinese mentality, as long as you refuse to accept something, then it must not exist.

Yes, DaBen is right, if they don't admit it happens, then it's like it doesn't happen. So according to the Chinese, there is no racism here. Well, also keep in mind that they discriminate against their own people. For instance, migrant workers and minorities are treated like second class citizens. So at least you know you aren't the only one...?

There's the whole "you're just squatters, taking our job and women" thing. So even if you complain it'll probably be your fault.

Good luck with that. There isn't any place that you can do that in. Racism is blatant here and they don't care.

I think there is noway to prevent or report racism here.Becuase in China there is exteme racism in how people think and treat others, be they from other countries or different racial groups within China. O n top of that there is also the class crap that goes on. But just think back to the blatant racism that existed less than 50 years ago in the USA and Australia and less than 20 years ago in South Africa, and which still exists in pockets within those  countries.

China has a lot of growing up to do and let us all hope that they can move forward into the modern world and it's people can learn as we all can, to enable us to eliminate this form of discrimination, that is after all is said and done, based on nothing other than ignorance.

really, report it to the NAACP, PETA, the Labor dept. ..... oh wait i'm not in civilized society.

maybe when you find where to report the discrimination report the fact that expats get higher pay and jobs because we dont look chinese and because our nationality is not chinese.

THIS IS CHINA NO HUMAN RIGHTS EXIST HERE, IT IS AS ADVERTISED! THEY LEAVE THEIR OWN DAMN CHILDREN TO PLAY IN THE STREET TO GET RUN OVER , AND THEN LEAVE THEM THERE TO DIE.

really what discrimination must be reported?

Speak for yourself. I know I get paid more because I'm a native speaker because there's NO way in hell they are paying me more for being black.

(Not to mention my school employs native speaking Asians)

Probably the best two places to report it to would be 1., your bartender or 2., your dog

Racism is as rife in China as it is anywhere else in the world, just ask Sepp Blatter (The current president of the FIFA association). Blatter would insist you shake someone's hand after a racial insult!!

Their is a caste system firmly in place in China with the philosophy of "the lighter your skin, the more highly regarded you are." If your skin is dark, tanned, or black you are considered a "commoner, peasant or someone with no education, values, morals, expectations, dreams or standards.

It's a hard slap in the face when the economic backbone of China's workforce are migrant workers and workers who work in the hundreds of thousands of manufacturing plants in the many provinces of China.

It makes me sick to the pit of my guts when I see Chinese women caked in white foundation make up (no wonder they all have terrible acne and complexions!) and wearing big hats and sporting umbrellas in the summer. "Shame On You!"

Hahaha... Maybe in a dream inside a dream inside another dream.
Many Chinese people don't even know that what they're doing is discrimination when they're doing it. To them, refusing someone a job because of the color of their skin is legitimate. Some honestly cannot see the wrong in that.
So reporting blatant discrimination here is as effective as reporting your stolen bicycle.

There is racism in china. that's why certain people can't get certain jobs. And also a chinese family mother and daughter wore a kimono at a graduation or a campus activity like spring festival or something and a lot of chinese guys started yelling at them. Why? Because they wore a japanese Kimono and they felt disrespected and didn't want anybody to wear a Japanese Kimono on his campus.

A:Going to HK would be the best bet I reckon, especially if you were looking for a church wedding. Chinese weddings are pretty grim IMO - you go to a barren govt dept with souless officials and navigate red tape so some guy can give you a red stamp and a marriage book. You get expensive pictures taken of you both posing in places you'd never go to in everyday life that is somehow supposed to represent your wedding, then a while later it's off to a restaurant where a game show host kind of guy makes sure it's as tacky as possible while the guests eat as fast as they can so they can leave as soon as they finish eating and gave you money. Hell, I'd go to Thailand or the Philippines and get married in Paradise.   -- Stiggs
