Q: Is Tianhe College the worst college in Guangzhou?

So I just finished my contract at what must be the worst college in Guangzhou. It's called Tianhe College of Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University. The long name should have been the first warning that this was literally a rubbish College. The school isn't even in the Tianhe District it's in the Baiyun District about one hour from Tianhe Coach Terminal Station.

The apartment is complete trash when I first it got the toilet seat kept falling off and there was no top of the toilet bowl. There was black stuff on the windows in the kitchen and it easily the worst kitchen I've seen my entire time in China. The school is located near the garbage dump so yes it smells like trash a lot of the time. There are trash trucks and other huge trucks that constantly drive by until very late at night and the apartment is located right next to the road so it makes it very difficult to sleep.

The facilities in the school suck the computers in the classrooms work one day and the next they don't. One day you call someone to fix it and the next it's broken again. I've even taken a proactive approach before my students exams to fix a computer and someone came back in and brought back the old monitor that was broken. I've wasted so much class time calling someone to fix a computer and I've gotten in trouble for simply switching classrooms when I felt like it would be less time consuming.

The students are completely unmotivated and uniterested in learning English some care but if you give them a task that's a little difficult they wont even try. They can do it but most will complain and the administration will say make it easier. If you take their phones in class some students will not give it up or they'll make lies and say you completely ignored half the class. Some students actually do try but most don't care. I

There are only two buses you can take to leave the school but they only depart in 30 minute frequencies and it's incredibly over crowded just outrageous you can never really go out and last bus leaves Tianhe Coach Terminal at 9:00 PM. There are also regular traffic jams that make it impossible to leave the campus on fridays and saturdays.

The students hate living here and I don't blame them it's just a horrible place do NOT teach here. I didn't do my research on it and I payed the price for it. I will say that they usually paid me on time and my payments were usually the correct amount. But if you get an offer teach at Tianhe College of Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University don't do it. Do not go unless you enjoy the smell of trash.

Worst college maybe, but not worst school if you've ever heard of Guangdong Country Garden 'International' School. Anyway thanks for your insight, if it avoids other people working for that dump.

Thanks for the description of one bad joint in China. It will serve as warning to other foreign teachers ...

As I can 'read' from your handle, you are Non-native English teacher, so ... I wonder, under which visa did they enable you to work for them?

Nice rant...lol

Did you come to work illegally in china for the experience of a different culture or let them know that their standards don't meet your lofty expectations? It must be quite a burden to condescend so fervently from your ivory tower.

It's a polytech....the kids aren't geniuses nor are their parents wealthy, which is why they are there. Seriously, what did you expect when you did no due diligence? There is no one to blame for your bad experience but yourself. Can't go out? Bollocks. Can't go to drug fuelled Eurotrash dance parties, probably true. But you could have stayed in your home country if that's what you want. Instead you could have made the effort to find the local life. And don't say there is none, because that would be bullshit. There is always some life, even if you can't see it from that ivory tower.

Pssst....you know that there is usually a one month "walk away" clause in every contract and if you want to quit you only need to give one month notice if you have gone beyond the probation period.

Oh well, put it down to experience and be a wee bit more careful where you choose next time.

I'm sorry but your complaints are un warranted.

Did they pay you on time?

Was the apartment clean (by Chinese standards) ?

Was everything in working order ? (by Chinese standards)

When you left, did they supply release docs before your visa/ WP expired?

Uninterested students, So fucking what?

Buses, the school isn't responsible for that!

The New York Giants play in Jersey, The LA Angeles play in Anaheim,.

You're the problem

There is a reason they hired a Russian to take the job there instead of a legal teacher, the legal teacher could have complained and made them be more accomodating, especially smelling trash and if it's not close to the city, the PSB has probably never visited the place.

A:Wow, you really found that nitpicky talking point that elevates the fossil fuel industry to the same level as the interests of humanity. Isn't it all just a "liberal" scam, if you don't look too closely at the absence of logic? "Yes, it must be. My masters are hinting that that's what I should believe!"

You've made it clear you are consciously ignoring the pollution and global warming. Since your handlers, the conservative establishment whose dismantling of the carbon credit system and environmental destruction you choose to ignore, have made it clear you should bark in this direction, you are eager to please!

Such an admirably domesticated, dependable, subservient human. I'm sure your handlers will throw you a bone while they bring home the bacon for themselves. You're so obedient, you deserve a doggie cookie! Who's a good boy? You are! Yes, you are. U-S-A! Woof woof woof! -- coineineagh
