Q: What do you think the percentage is of laowai in china teaching english on the correct visa?

And by correct visa I don't just mean any Z visa....I mean how many have done it with 100% legitimacy....like no fake degree or fake work experience or any kind of fake document  or through a 3rd party company...I'm talking 100% by the books.....I reckon the percentage of people who have a 100%, no bullshit, no loophole Z Visa is quite low.

I know there are a lot of people who work for reputable schools and have the right stuff to get in legit.....but just to find a reputable school for one is like finding a needle in haystack....so it must be really low the percentage who have legit 100% visas.

I think it would be difficult to know. The only exact number can be judged by observing only the people you personally know. I doubt that many people will say "I HAVE A FAKE VISA".

We can only speculate based on hearsay.

In a country where finding doctors, surgeons, safety inspectors, architects, police officers, engineers (and any other critical occupation you can think of ) with the correct legitimate certification and competence is as likely as finding icicles in the Sahara desert, esl teachers that don't meet the correct criteria should be the least of people's worries.

I would bet it's less than a third of them or even 20% because it's just not worth it nowadays to go through all the BS hassle of getting a working visa to earn less than a burger flipper back home, and no social benefits. I personally know lots of people who work on other visas and have never been worried about it.

And as Kaiwen said, in a country where everyone is faking qualifications and experience, cheating and lying and cutting corners in critical positions and embezzling millions from taxpayers' money in government positions, unqualified ESL teachers should be the least of people's worries.

But of course it's easier to point at Foreigners and blame them for all of China's problems than to look in a mirror and see the true roots of said problems, Chinese people's own greed and shortsightedness. Also it takes balls to stand up to corrupt officials and police officers, Chinese haven't got what it takes for that.

I have only met one person that this would relate to. He used a fake degree to get his Z visa.   He switched companies, and when the new one demanded that he get his degree authenticated he got caught and deported.

Any person who works at a school that can't hire foreigners falls under this category...that's a huge %of the foreigners in china.

mmm, why are you fishing for information like this? Makes it look like you are the one here on a fake degree and you're trying to measure the risk... Enjoy the measuring.

biggj123:

Nothing to do with that. My guess is 70% of English schools can't legal hire foreigners anyway and the ones that can pull sketchy back door shit to get people visas. I just think the percentage of people with 100% legal visa is just low. Just starting a conversation...why are you so triggered? Give me your guess instead of being a prick.

Why focus on teachers?

Why not include Company Directors, Start ups, Traders, Investors..... ?

China has a non existent immigration system.  I could turn up here as a foreigner, with 5 million bucks, a great idea, get married, have a kid, and I would have zero percent protection against being thrown out on a whim.

I could invest my 5 million, and if my idea worked out great, I would increase my chances of deportation.

The problem is not illegal teachers.  The problem is the Chinese system that does not allow people to be legal.  That is the big fucking problem. That is the massive tuskless elephant in the Chinese room.

China should lead the way on this.  A paradigm shift is needed. New thinking rather than reciprocal tit for tat.

If a Z visa holder gets married here... automatic D visa after 2 years.. Lets get the ESL teachers out of the ESL trap. Lets liberate skilled people from the certificate to employ foreigners.

I have been married 6 years to a Chinese national, we have a 5 year old kid, last week I was awarded 3 Chinese patents, but yet I am tied in servitude to the company that has a license to employ me as a foreigner.

That is wrong.

I know engineers working as teachers who could make a difference to China. People  who can potentially invent.. But China says no.  They want to keep them in the ESL trap. I know Chinese companies who want to hire them, people who have been here for years, speak fluent Chinese, have a stake in society, but the Government say no.

I know people here, married to Chinese, own a house, have Chinese kids, have first class degrees.... but China says no... you are a performing white monkey.

China needs to up it's game. If you don't let us work here, if you don't let us in when we are already here, you are just sending a message to the rich parents. And the rich parents are leaving China in their droves. With their money.

Honestly. Rich Chinese fuck off to the west for a western education for their kids.... western teachers here have to work illegally... is there a link? A solution perhaps?

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
