Q: Where do you put the cheap poor labor that do the work?

So you are the underclass that keeps the city running and now your poor neighborhood is disappearing and you can't afford to buy anything.

You could move further out of the growing octopus of land speculation called Beijing, but eventually you are living on someone's farmland and taking away there income.https://www.yahoo.com/news/demolishing-beijings-disorderly-development-slideshow-wp-182016451.html

San Francisco has tech areas where google employees make 19 dollars and hour and leave in people's garages unable to even rent an apartment. Commuters live close to Oakland and drive to San Francisco. Since governments in California restrict land and development so strictly, the middle class can't live there and the poor are cramped in boxes and the result is more 20 percent of citizens live below poverty and another 20 percent barely able to maintain basic needs. Affordable housing is an extinct dream of a by gone era.

China does not have a way for the poor to get in the city if you destroy there outskirt neighborhoods. The subway could take years to catch up and the roads and traffic do not solve the problem either. The price of growth, perhaps, but when it slows down, chaos will be normal, If the migrant workers go home in frustration, you now have no workers to finish fixing the problem, assuming it works.

Yeah it's tough to know what to do, you can say those conditions are inhumane but then maybe that's the best they can do. Or even that they want to do.

It does look like shit, and it does give places a unsavory look. But you're right that people live in these places and you aren't doing any favors by putting them outta work or forcing them to have 3 hr commutes. They obviously had that option before and would rather live in a basement close to the jobs.

True. Should that happen the bosses would have to raise the wages for these workers.

Before that, how about forming labor unions to strengthen their bargaining power?  A strike from them isn't pleasant, you want to burn your garbage in your garage everyday?
