Q: Will China 'follow' PM Morrison suggestion?
https://www.rt.com/news/551416-australia-china-silence-russia-ukraine/
Australia demands China end ‘chilling silence’
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has called on China to end its “chilling silence” over Russia’s offensive in Ukraine, stating that “no country in the world will have a bigger impact” on bringing the conflict to an end.
Speaking at the Lowy Institute think tank in Sydney on Monday, Morrison warned that, without Beijing directly condemning Moscow’s actions, the world risks being reshaped by an “arc of autocracy” due to China and Russia’s relationship.
“I was listening for the voice of the Chinese government when it came to condemning the actions of Russia and there was a chilling silence,” Morrison declared.
“China has long-claimed to have a role as one of the major powers in the world and to be a contributor to global peace and stability,” the prime minister added, urging Beijing to step up and act amid the escalating conflict.
Blasting President Vladimir Putin, Morrison claimed that Russia’s offensive in Ukraine was not going as planned, claiming the Kremlin had “overestimated the capacity” of how it might be able to fulfill its military objectives.
The criticism from Morrison comes despite Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi claiming on Monday that Beijing is ready to facilitate peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.
“The wider the disagreement, the greater the need to sit down and have negotiation,” Wang said, offering China as a mediator if necessary. However, he did not specify if a formal offer had been made to Russia and Ukraine, or whether Beijing had received a response from either side.
Wang told reporters China believes that to resolve the conflict, both nations must work together diplomatically to uphold the principles of the United Nations Charter, respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries. He also said the “legitimate security concerns” of both parties involved must be taken into account.
The Chinese foreign minister stated that his country will provide aid to Ukraine in the near future, with the Red Cross Society of China preparing to send humanitarian assistance.

Trump-ster jokes about false-flagging Russia into war with China – media
Bomb Russia with Chinese-flagged planes, former president reportedly chortled
Former US president Donald Trump joked that Washington should “ bomb the s***” out of Russia using F-22 fighter jets emblazoned with the Chinese flag during a speech to Republican National Committee donors on Saturday.
And then we say, China did it,” he continued, according to CBS News, which cited sources present at the event. “Then they start fighting with each other, and we sit back and watch.”
The audience reportedly got a good chuckle out of the president’s suggestion, which they may or may not have considered during the runup to Russia’s military operation in Ukraine, a period in which Secretary of State Antony Blinken dropped the phrase “false flag” on a near-daily basis.
Unlike the US and its allies, China has deliberately avoided being swept up in the sanctions frenzy triggered by the conflict in Ukraine, remaining studiously neutral. Beijing has obvious advantages to gain by the US tying up its finances and war machine in a drawn-out conflict with another world power, and while some Chinese entities have withdrawn from doing business with Russia, others have seized the opportunity created by the financial troubles being waged on Russia and inked major deals with the country.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry has denounced what it referred to as “illegal unilateral sanctions” imposed on Russia in response to the offensive, ordering the West to steer clear of “harm[ing] the legitimate rights and interests of China and other parties” with its financial punishments.
Trump was eviscerated in the media last month for describing Russian President Vladimir Putin as “savvy” and “brilliant” for his actions in Ukraine, words which triggered many of the same pundits who made their careers denouncing him as a Russian puppet. He subsequently pivoted to blaming current President Joe Biden for being insufficiently tough on Putin, insisting “nobody has ever been tougher on Russia than [Trump]” and arguing that had he remained president, Putin would never have started an offensive against Ukraine.
Trump also had harsh words for NATO, however, dismissing the transatlantic alliance as a “paper tiger.” During his presidency, he repeatedly complained about NATO allies not paying their fair share of the costs required to run the alliance and threatened to leave the group entirely. However, he never followed through on those threats and it’s unclear whether he was actually serious.
The former president touched on a series of familiar topics during his speech, from the “rigged” 2020 election to climate change being a “hoax”. According to a recent CBS poll, 69% of Republicans want Trump to run for president again in 2024, and the former president has teased such a campaign, promising “we will see a Republican president reclaim that magnificent White House in 2024,” according to the source. “I wonder who that might be,” he continued.

Visa, Mastercard Hike Merchant Fees For First Time In 2 Years
Just days after cutting off customers in Russia, credit card giants Visa and Mastercard are raising the rates they charge merchants for using their service after suspending price hikes for the last two years because of the pandemic. While paid up-front by businesses, these fees are typically passed along to consumers in the form of higher prices.
The fee hikes are expected to kick in next month, according to WSJ's anonymous sources. So-called "interchange fees" that account for most of the increase are charged when customers use their cards at a merchant's business. Though shoppers remain mostly ignorant of their existence, these fees are a "constant source of aggravation" for merchants.

Western Economies On Brink Of Recession As Russia Sanctions Escalate
In mid-February, top policymakers appeared to have thought they could reconcile these objectives through a carefully controlled sanctions escalation strategy exempting oil and gas trade. But that plan has broken down as a result of Russia's slow progress on the battlefield and immense diplomatic and public pressure on U.S. and European leaders to maximise sanctions swiftly.
U.S. and European policymakers must choose between imposing maximum pressure on Russia by cutting off oil and gas purchases or a more modest approach that will avert recession.

Russia To Ban Fertilizer Exports To 'Not Friendly' Countries; China Warns US Against Retaliation
Russia's war on Ukraine is continuing to boost food prices. While the US and European countries are engaged in economic warfare against Moscow, it appears Russia's turn to strike back has emerged.
On Thursday, Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov said Russia decided to suspend fertilizer exports. This comes when global food prices are at record highs, and European fertilizer makers are struggling to produce nutrients ahead of the spring growing season, increasing global food inflation risks.
President Vladimir Putin said the fertilizer export ban was a move to ensure stable domestic food prices. This is another sign of growing protectionism worldwide as countries grapple with soaring food prices. Putin said fertilizer markets are deteriorating, making food a lot more expensive.
Meanwhile, China FM Spokesperson, Zhao Lijian was quoted earlier today as saying Beijing will retaliate with a "serious response" if the US hits sanctions on China over Ukraine.
To sum up, Russia banning fertilizer and the possibility of certain agricultural products to the West will result in elevated food prices. At the same time, we see a multipolar world order emerging that is bringing Moscow and Beijing closer by the day.

It’s not just America’s "enemies" who are worried about the US abusing its economic power. Her friends are also wary, as they should be.
The government of the United States has intervened militarily in other countries for decades, against the council of founders like George Washington who advised America should “observe good faith and justice towards all nations; cultivate peace and harmony with all.”
But the U.S. doesn’t only project power across the globe through its massive military. It also weaponizes the U.S. dollar, using its economic dominance and its privilege as the issuer of the reserve currency as a carrot-stick tool of foreign policy. The U.S. government showers billions of dollars in foreign aid to “friends.” On the other hand, “enemies” can find themselves locked out of SWIFT, the global financial system that the U.S. effectively controls using the dollar.

This was followed minutes later with similar Washington Post and New York Times stories in what looks like a US "coordinated leak" effort to send a message and warning to China.
"Russia has asked China for military equipment to support its invasion of Ukraine, according to [anonymous] US officials, sparking concern in the White House that Beijing may undermine western efforts to help Ukrainian forces defend their country," FT writes.

American military expert explains ‘slow’ Russian advance in Ukraine
Propaganda in the West has created false expectations of Ukrainian success, retired US officer says
Russia has largely achieved its objective of neutralizing the Ukrainian military, but Western governments mistakenly believe the deliberate progress designed to avoid civilian casualties reflects weakness and are funneling weapons to prolong the fighting, a former top Pentagon adviser has said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has given strict orders from the outset to avoid civilian casualties and extensive property damage, retired US Army Colonel Douglas Macgregor told the Grayzone in an extensive interview on Tuesday.
This has slowed the Russians’ advance “to the point where it has given false hope both to the Ukrainians … but seized on by people in the West, to try and convince the world that a defeat is in progress, when in fact the opposite is the case,” Macgregor said.
“The war, for all intents and purposes, has been decided,” the retired colonel said. “The entire operation from day one was focused on the destruction of Ukrainian forces. That’s largely complete.”
The Ukrainian units still active “are completely surrounded, cut off and isolated in various towns and cities,” said Macgregor, including as many as 60,000 on the border with Donetsk, whose supplies are likely running out by now.
Media coverage of the fighting, however, ignores this reality and paints a picture of the Russian military being “inept” – in the words ofsome US senators – because it didn’t defeat Kiev in mere days. This is then used as an argument by advocates of NATO intervention and a “no-fly zone,” but also those who wish to send more weapons to Kiev.
“It’s very obvious Washington wants this to continue as long as possible, in hopes Russia would be desperately harmed. I just don’t see that happening,” Macgregor told Grayzone on Tuesday.
The biggest problem right now is that “in the West, there is no truth. There is wishful thinking and there is this impression of success by the Ukrainians that doesn’t stack up,” the colonel added. “The biggest lie I’ve heard repeated on television is, Russian troops have been told to deliberately murder Ukrainian civilians. That’s absurd, it’s nonsense.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked the US Congress on Wednesday to send fighter jets, air defense missiles and other weapons to Kiev, as well as establish a no-fly zone over Ukraine, so his army could defeat Russia. He made the same argument to Canadian lawmakers on Tuesday.
Macgregor, however, believes that such shipments will have no effect and that Zelensky’s refusal to negotiate an armistice is only going to get more Ukrainians killed.

Say Hello To Russian-Gold And Chinese-Petroyuan
The Russia-led Eurasia Economic Union and China just agreed to design the mechanism for an independent financial and monetary system that would bypass dollar transactions...
It was a long time coming, but finally some key lineaments of the multipolar world’s new foundations are being revealed.
On Friday, after a videoconference meeting, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and China agreed to design the mechanism for an independent international monetary and financial system. The EAEU consists of Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and Armenia, is establishing free trade deals with other Eurasian nations, and is progressively interconnecting with the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
For all practical purposes, the idea comes from Sergei Glazyev, Russia’s foremost independent economist, a former adviser to President Vladimir Putin and the Minister for Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasia Economic Commission, the regulatory body of the EAEU.
Glazyev’s central role in devising the new Russian and Eurasian economic/financial strategy has been examined here. He saw the western financial squeeze on Moscow coming light-years before others.
Quite diplomatically, Glazyev attributed the fruition of the idea to “the common challenges and risks associated with the global economic slowdown and restrictive measures against the EAEU states and China.”
Translation: as China is as much a Eurasian power as Russia, they need to coordinate their strategies to bypass the US unipolar system.
The Eurasian system will be based on “a new international currency,” most probably with the yuan as reference, calculated as an index of the national currencies of the participating countries, as well as commodity prices. The first draft will be already discussed by the end of the month.

Ruski aren't broke like USA and EU, i.e. West would be, if you turn the sanctions table ...
Russian extensive Gold (and other precious metals/PMs) bullion chest together with China and India, too.
I tell you, it won't be pretty when reset in economy finally hits ... for ones without PMs bullion.
Now, Ruski are certainly hurt by the sanctions, but it isn't such a big deal as West is presenting it. IMO.
Don't you be thinking, Russians (and others ..., China) were surprised by the sanctions, he he. That was all taken into account and pre-planned ...
Remember Olympic games in Beijing ... couldn't see anybody else but Xi and ras-Putin ..

‘Unprecedented’ scale of sanctions, boycott took Russia by surprise, experts say
"No doubt, we haven’t seen anything like this. This situation is different than other sanctions we’ve seen in the past. Russia would never have expected the West to be so well-coordinated,” said Dr. Jennifer Shkabatur, a consultant for the World Bank and a faculty member at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy at Reichman University in Herzliya."

Yeah, maybe ... still 900 million (West) sanction over 1.6 billion (China, Russia, and few others - Iran, Venezuela ...). Don't forget to add India to the 2nd group, he he.
Bipolar world is emerging and West is too weak for this competition, IMO.
China with Ruski's tech, space exploration and what not ... West doesn't stand a chance ... if we'll avoid annihilation war ...
I've read it ... and fix yer link, but ...
I wouldn't trust too much to "... ferociousness of Ukraine’s resistance" and "... Russia eased its course at negotiations" as author is pointing out.
Russians want Uki's neutrality, i.e. no ZATO and Crimea with Donbass independent, i.e. whole part of western Uki from day one and that's all and haven't been changed or eased anyhow.
I'd say, one should be very, very careful when Ruski will ease their demands 'cause huge bombing of Uki will follow ... I-M-O!
Remember, Ruski don't have too much to loose anymore ...
Ruski used Kinzhal, i.e. Dagger, hypersonic missile yesterday, twice at 2 Uki's military installations. ZATO doesn't have a viable defence against Kinzhal for now ... and missile can also carry a nuclear payload ...
Please, stop poking a BEAR ... for the good of humanity!
https://missilethreat.csis.org/missile/kinzhal/
Russia likely developed the unique missile to more easily target critical European infrastructure (e.g. airfields, warehouses, command centers, etc.) and to counter U.S. theater missile defenses such as THAAD.6 An aircraft’s ability to launch from unpredictable directions would strain sectored (non-360 degree) radars, such as those currently deployed with the Patriot system. Additionally, if the Kinzhal does indeed have antiship capabilities, it may also pose a threat to U.S. and NATO aircraft carriers.

Nobody will win, that's why I think invading Ukraine was an arsehole thing to do.
Putin trying to say the point of it all was to 'liberate' Ukraine - and still telling the Russian people this - was crap. They've shown very strongly they want nothing to do with being Russian.
If his purpose was to keep NATO etc away from his borders, break up alliances and all that... well now two other neighbours want to join NATO, others are beefing up their military and everyone is more united against Russia than ever.
All he has achieved is to f*ck up the world economy, royally f*ck up his own economy, cause a humitarian disaster in Ukraine and turn Russia into the world leper..
icnif77:
It's a Ruski pride ... and non-compliance with the West ... globalization BS .. started with:
1. Granting of asylum to "Up-Yours" in 2013 despite USA almost stopped the Earth to roll around in order to get hands on him. Never mind, China was behind all, he he;
2. Helping Assad in Syria and making USA and ZATO obsolete there. No more repeats of Iraq and Libya! ... and "Hail-to-Vladimiro-witch!" for the reversing of the Syrians onslaught by the West;
3. Today's Uki, which was provoked by the West ... and as it looks, it won't have a nice ending for Uki.
I was digging yesterday about that ZATO bombing of Serbia in 1999 and ... Ruski today are sorry 'cause they let it happened. Ruski and Serbs share the same religion ... and Azbuka, the cyrillic letters ... and very, very similar culture.
That whole South of EU area is Romanized except Serbia, country of less than 5 million people ..
That Russian Vodka gobbling president (the one after the Gorbachev) let ZATO bombing of Serbs go undisturbed ... and Russians today think, that was a big mistake ... and Uki ...
At Uki today, Russians put the foot down ...
Mark-my-words: "Russians won't let it go ...!", doesn't matter all sorry reports and opinions you can listen and read at MSM, but never about the revival of nazism in Uki or how it all started ... I have to say, I found that very awkward-ish!

Well as they say, pride goes before a fall.
If all this is just a matter of pride Putin is a c*nt. If he's arsehurt because he wants Russia to be glorious again that's his problem, he's certainly not helping his own country or people by doing all this.
icnif77:
That MSM's blame-Putin-for-everything is very shady,. IMO. He has to have some military and political backing for all this ...
In old Russia, it use to be called 'Politbiro', he he. That's in Ruski and it means 'political bureau' ...

He's the authoritarian leader of Russia. Political opponents and journalists who question him are thrown out of windows, he calls the shots and it has been him leading this shitshow.

"On the other hand, respondents who said they were unvaccinated seem to have differing opinions, with the majority (52%) saying they don’t support any of the anti-Russian measures mentioned by the pollsters, and 75% saying they refuse to pay the price by having prices at home skyrocket."
While, you could (I do!) consider that as a MSM reporting about him ... I don't believe he can run the whole show by himself ...
Stiggs:
No leader of any country runs the place by themselves, that's just not possible.
But he does call the shots though.
You're happy enough to criticise other country's leaders here when they do something you don't approve of, and you're happy enough to rain praise on a country's leader when they do something you like - in those cases it's all on the President / Prime minister or whoever .... not long ago you were gushing about what a brilliant leader Putin is and how he's the master chess player ...but somehow it's different when a dictator you seem to admire does something disgusting? Now suddenly the guy who literally calls the shots, makes the big decisions and won't tolerate any dissent shouldn't be held accountable for his actions when things go tits up?
icnif77:
The thingy runs a bit different in Russia, China, Irani-stan and other 'usual suspects' than in our democracies (which are also full of veiled BS ..!).
What irked ras-Putin the most was Uki's acceptance into ZATO and free neo-nazi stuff, which runs wild in Uki ... and western political scholars warned about it and predicted well in advance .. Imagine that!
Don't these western political predicaments give you a sour taste? ... or in other words, all today's problems in Uki were intentionally instigated by the West, USA the most from the 'effin "ocean-away". Why?
Only reason for the present problems in Uki is "upping of the USA arms sales and further armaments deployment around the globe!" ...
Remember the first US assault on Iraq in 2003? ... 'weapons of mass destructions BS' and purge of Saddam. It was almost identical economic crisis brewing as today and Saddam announced Iraq's plan to stop exchanging their oil for US Dollah ...
... and on the top of all nazi BS in Uki, Russia had a great relations with Krouts and other major EU states ... since almost after the end of 2nd WW, i.e. since 1950 or so on.
Vlad isn't a bad man as West is picture him ... and "Russian-Bad" overall as in USA since McCarthyzem, i.e. from the late 1940 - 50-tis. Something stinks here, won't you say?
I don't think, majority of Russians think about 'tits up ... in Uki' as you ... Majority aren't pro-war, but ...
Ruskis army in Uki today behaves very similar as before and at the "Battle for Stalingrad" in 1942/43.
It didn't start as of yet, but IMO, we aren't too far from the repeat of that historical battle as yesterday's Ruskis taking-over of Mariupol with fierce street fighting shows.
Have a look about the fight for Stalingrad on the web, in short, Russians ate the Krouts alive ... with huge casualties themselves, but nevertheless Ruskis ended up as a winners.
Today Uki's problems will unite the Ruskis ... they were already very chauvinistic in 2017 when I was there ... Relations toward westerners will even get worse in Russia, i.e. you don't want to be an English teacher there ... and use "Do you speak English?" too often in today's Russia.
... About the problems ordinary Ruskis experience 'cause of the sanctions and MSM is keep showing it and exaggerating ... that is very easily 'solvable' with the call to Ruski public:
"STFU, We're at War!" ...
I told you, I'm a smarty, he he

"The Rest Versus the West"
https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2022-03-23/chinas-emerging-anti-american-alliance-russia
Substantively, though, it's more accurate to say it's the West versus Russia. The world's two most populous countries, China and India, have refused to join in U.S.-led sanctions and have continued to trade with Russia. For example, India has imported four times as much oil from Russia this month has it did in March of 2021, per the Financial Times.
While the West has worked to isolate Russia diplomatically and economically, increasingly, not Western countries seem to be drifting away (or, one might say being pushed away) from the U.S. American officials, and their allies in the U.S. media, seem perplexed by this. For example, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki suggested India would put itself on the wrong side of history by accepting discounted Russian oil.
And on CBS's Face the Nation on Sunday, Margaret Brennan beratingly asked Qin Gang, China's ambassador to the U.S., why China hadn't condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine. One Chinese account on Twitter shared the video of Brennan berating Gang with this comment (translated by Google from the Chinese):
This is not like an educated and disciplined host, more like a bickering pheasant at the head of the village!

WATCH: author confront Canadian FM for ‘escalating’ Russia-Ukraine war
The West is "provoking" a world war by using Ukraine as a "proxy" against Russia, writer Yves Engler shouted as he hijacked the minister’s speech
Writer and activist Yves Engler interrupted a speech by Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly, accusing the authorities in Ottawa of escalating the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and increasing the risk of it turning into a global confrontation.
Engler shared a clip of himself confronting the foreign minister on Twitter on Tuesday.
It showed the leftist writer entering the conference hall and walking towards the stage, shouting: “Stop escalating the war. Stop sending arms to Ukraine… You’re going to push us to World War III.”
Canada, which along with the US and other Western nations backs Ukraine in the ongoing conflict, has sent so many rocket launchers, grenades, and other equipment to Kiev that it has “exhausted” its own military’s stockpile of weapons, Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand said last week.
“Why didn’t you push Kiev to sign the Minsk accords?” Engler asked, addressing Joly.
The Minsk agreements, which were signed with the mediation of Russia, Germany, and France in 2014, were designed to regulate the status of the breakaway republics of Donetsk and Lugansk as part of Ukraine.
However, shortly before Russia launched its military operation in February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the accords “incompetent” and made it clear that Kiev wasn’t going to fulfill them.
“Stop using Ukraine as a proxy against Russia,” the author said, repeating some of his statements in French and then managing to flee the room before security could apprehend him.
In an article published on his website on Monday, Engler condemned the Russian attack on Ukraine, but pointed out that NATO’s eastward expansion had increased the likelihood of an armed conflict between the two nations. A declaration of Ukraine as a neutral state which will never join the US-led military bloc has been one of Moscow’s key demands during the ongoing peace talks with Kiev.
“Peace minded Canadians should redouble our efforts to get Canada out of NATO,” he said.
Engler, who is the author of a dozen books, also actively protested the involvement of Canada in the coup in Haiti in 2004. At the time, he crashed a press conference by then-Canadian Foreign Minister Pierre Pettigrew and poured cranberry juice on him, symbolizing the blood of the Haitian people.
He is also a strong supporter of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign, which calls for measures against Israel over its occupation of Palestinian lands.
