Q: Will DNA tests create a large troop of left-over men and women in China

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2856789/125-DNA-test-checks-100-...

This is one piece of news I read this morning and it looks quite scary to me because I think such DNA tests might lead to the rise of abortion, divorce, and break-ups. What do you guys think?

"You know you've been too long in China when you start thinking all in eugenics" indecision

But, yeah, good question.

I guess the answer is that 125 bucks is way too expensive and the 10 bucks knockoffs won't detect anything at all.

Or they'll be banned because they're from Google and they might hurt iKang's monopolistic scam.

The Chinese body is different (source: educated Chinese adults), so maybe DNA evidence does not apply ? Clinical tests, biochemistry, micro-biology does not apply, so why the hell not...

Chinese (both men and women) have eugenic ideas about relationships, they have a specific image of who they want as a partner (to reproduce) and won't make an exception.

Disabled or impaired people are openly marginalized in this society, BTW I am very surprised that people with myopia are not, might be because so many Chinese have it, you can't marginalize nearly a quarter or a third of the population.

So yes  DNA tests that are cheap and reveal your tendencies to a number of diseases might result in many more singles.

I think it should be illegal the same way as ultrasounds to determine the sex of your unborn baby is, and for the same reason.

With the ultrasound the parents learn they'll have a beautiful healthy baby GIRL. They often abort it.

What will happen if parents start testing their newborn babies and find there is a chance the baby won't be a good return on their investment later? They'd probably abandon it or worse.

A:Going to HK would be the best bet I reckon, especially if you were looking for a church wedding. Chinese weddings are pretty grim IMO - you go to a barren govt dept with souless officials and navigate red tape so some guy can give you a red stamp and a marriage book. You get expensive pictures taken of you both posing in places you'd never go to in everyday life that is somehow supposed to represent your wedding, then a while later it's off to a restaurant where a game show host kind of guy makes sure it's as tacky as possible while the guests eat as fast as they can so they can leave as soon as they finish eating and gave you money. Hell, I'd go to Thailand or the Philippines and get married in Paradise.   -- Stiggs
