Q: Would you want to be working for a foreign company in China?

China has reportedly detained an American, after recently detaining a British national, in it's targetting of foreign drug companies.

Considering that China is increasing the amount of foreign companies being targetted, should foreign management in these companies be worried?

It depends on the level of management you are in, and the industry. The pharmaceutical industry differs from normal product manufacturing. Some foreign companies have lower levels of foreign management, for example, the manager who travels to the different factories to check on quality etc. And then there are the higher up guys. Pharmaceuticals are obviously BIG business world-wide and China is still quite a new big market they are trying to enter, so the potential profits are unbelievable.  it all depends on how far things are let go in terms of holding foreign nationals in this manner, and how much foreign companies will tolerate.  How much does your employer value YOU?

Have no worries at the company I  work for (fortune 500 company). Most smart management will carry around a notepad which I  do as well that documents every phone call or meeting I have with people each day, in the case of me going to court or anything else I have documented proof of hat was done and said. Need to cover your arse all the time here play it smart and you will win play it dumb and you will lose.

china will push as far as possible with out losing the companies.

the host will always be allowed to grow again after the parasite gets all the info and benefit possible, so the parasite can attack again later. killing the host is counterproductive. some parasites can live more than 5000 years.

Foreign companies I've worked for in China have been Chinese brought and owned franchises (who know all the right people), so I've been fine so far. I guess that doesn't count fully though.

As long as the foreign company isn't too big and influential you'll be fine. The more money the company is making from  being in China, the more likely Chinese authorities will audit it.

A:Going to HK would be the best bet I reckon, especially if you were looking for a church wedding. Chinese weddings are pretty grim IMO - you go to a barren govt dept with souless officials and navigate red tape so some guy can give you a red stamp and a marriage book. You get expensive pictures taken of you both posing in places you'd never go to in everyday life that is somehow supposed to represent your wedding, then a while later it's off to a restaurant where a game show host kind of guy makes sure it's as tacky as possible while the guests eat as fast as they can so they can leave as soon as they finish eating and gave you money. Hell, I'd go to Thailand or the Philippines and get married in Paradise.   -- Stiggs
