Q: In the year 2049, will China be in its prime?

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/04/12/commentary-time-for-us-europe-to-ask-wha...

From CNBC article; "Finally, it’s clearer than ever that Beijing by the time of the 100th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China in 2049 aspires to be the dominant economic, political and perhaps military power for an era where democracies remain but authoritarian systems are ascendant."

Like the CPC, I also have pipe dreams, but I realize them for what they are. Or perhaps, like Poe, they are taking an opium-induced stroll through the Valley of Many-Colored Grass where such dreams are so vivid as to seem like reality. Still, they are entitled to their dreams, their aspirations and their goals. Hitler's new wonder weapons will win the war and all the world's a rose garden.

China has their dictatorship going for them, so at least they can play the long game. The US term limit is far too short to make any meaningful long term plans because the next administration will spend their time undoing what the previous one did.

Stiggs:

Yeah it seems like they spend their time trying to find dirt on each other, defending themselves against all the allegations against them and tweeting shit at everyone.

The Chinese just work on building their empire.

Yeah, they're building their empire of dirt and it will turn to mud when the commie restricted economy collapses. And that right soon.

Maybe, but then people have been saying the Chinese economy will collapse for a long time now and it hasn't happened yet, some economists say that the shit is about to hit the fan with the US economy too.

Anything can happen but if I was going to place a bet on this my money would be on China being a major power in 2050.

India's economy will surpass China's within the next decade. Maybe I'm being jaded and cynical, but I see China regressing rather than progressing. Their current political and economic policies will not allow them to move forward with any degree of certainty. Even though the US is on the verge of a major recession, it will emerge strong like it always has. It is not a house of cards like China.

It's possible. China is very determined and focused in working towards their goals, more so than their competition I think.

Then again, a lot can happen in 30 years so who knows, by then China's environmental problems will probably be catastrophic instead of just dire which might slow them down a bit.

China is already a major power in every sense of the word. Ghengas Khan,  Alexander, Neopolean, Hitler, and a few others had big dreams too. But like some of those powers, China"s dream will probably be defeated from within. Overtaking America will be easy as long as the Trumpet boy is in power.

A:Wow, you really found that nitpicky talking point that elevates the fossil fuel industry to the same level as the interests of humanity. Isn't it all just a "liberal" scam, if you don't look too closely at the absence of logic? "Yes, it must be. My masters are hinting that that's what I should believe!"

You've made it clear you are consciously ignoring the pollution and global warming. Since your handlers, the conservative establishment whose dismantling of the carbon credit system and environmental destruction you choose to ignore, have made it clear you should bark in this direction, you are eager to please!

Such an admirably domesticated, dependable, subservient human. I'm sure your handlers will throw you a bone while they bring home the bacon for themselves. You're so obedient, you deserve a doggie cookie! Who's a good boy? You are! Yes, you are. U-S-A! Woof woof woof! -- coineineagh
