Q: What is needed to get back in China?

I'm in South Africa. I have valid Chinese Work and Residence Permits. I'm busy looking for new employment in China.

What steps must I take before I can book a ticket back to China - apart from Covid test and Health Declaration form?

I lost jobs previously since we couldn't get back to China before. Agents encourage me to please get back into China asap, since many employers still want to employ foreighners who are inside China already.

I don't get any response from Chine Consul in South Africa.

Response from anybody else instead of Chinese Embassy in SA doesn't count, IMO.

New British Consul landed in Bj yesterday. Have a read at requirements (15-days quarantine at the landing ...) in China:

I doubt that anyone really knows enough to give you a proper answer yet, it's a new, constantly changing situation.

China recently said they'll start allowing people with valip RPs back into the country but I haven't heard much more about it since.

My guess would be it will be people with existing jobs rather than new jobs though, limited in numbers, decided on a case by case basis and probably aimed more at critical type jobs rather than English teachers.

Apart from the whole not wanting foreigners here thing, some stories that the croup is popping up again in a few places. Anecdotally, here on the ground, it depends upon where you enter the country. The response can vary daily and from 2 weeks in a skanky hotel to a raft of medical evidence and checks to go back to whence you came.

My personal guess is that it's a wait and see what happens during the winter.

I suggest you put off your plans for at least another 6 months and monitor the wechat news and reddit r/China visa groups.

A guy is know has been stranded in the US for months, he has the valid RP and everything and is working on getting back to China now. Last time I talked to him he seemed fairly hopeful it would be soon so presumably he's had some encouraging noises from whoever he's dealing with, or at least hasn't been shot down.

Logistically, there must be a lot involved in letting people in again. Pre -testing,testing on arrival, quarantine arrangements, security, prioritising who comes first etc... I doubt they'd let random red stampers do that kind of thing, it would be people higher up the ladder. Bureaucracy never moves quickly.

And then, with the recent spike in numbers everywhere it wouldn't surprise me if China is quietly re-thinking their 'let em back in' policy.

Italian Police Use Lamborghini For Urgent 300-Mile Kidney Delivery In Just Two Hours

The thingy is ..., I, European on US I-95, from Ft. Lauderdale to Boston got stopped in N. Georgia doing 105 m/h. Got arrested and put in jail for 8 friggin' days ... then cops took me in front of the judge, shackled like in the movies ... arms&legs connected with big bicycle chain in between ..

I was like, what is wrong with these coppers??

Doing 35m/h over the limit, completely sober, without any contraband in me car (.. my DL was suspended for some unknown reason ...).. how am I a flight risk ...??

I told judge: "Once, you drive on the left lane on EU highways, you can do any speed you like ... and nobody will bother you ...!"

Judge: "OK, that's very nice ... Fine is 'time served and some US$700 in cash' ...".

They let me go out of the jail with less than US$15 in my pocket and my car was on impound 'cause my DL was reported suspended.

I tell you, it was better when I was in jail. Food sucks, but being in horizontal all the time helped. The real trouble started as I was let go out of the jail 'cause I had to get my car out of the impound ... with suspended DL to continue my trip to Cape Cod.

At my return to Fla 6-months later, I went to the coppery station and asked:

    "Why my DL was suspended?"

Cop: "Sorry sir, we made a mistake!"

The Lambo above could have police's escort, but he just drove the distance by himself ... far L lane and off you go .. in EU.

Dutch cops were using Porsche on highway some 30-years ago ...

When I was explaining that to a judge in Georgia, I had a feeling he didn't believe me ... Was driving remodelled Merc 190 ... similar gear as drug peddlers were using at the time.

I had a bit of satisfaction while in Georgia jail. They serve meal 3-times a day, but I cannot eat without taking an insulin shot, so I didn't eat for maybe 24-hours. Then. cops realized somebody is on hunger strike ... LOL ... After I explained to them I can't eat unless ...they had to take me out of the cell before the every meal for my insulin shot, he he.

These jails are like 'forget about everybody in'. They put you in and next time you see them is when you are free to go. Not in my case, he he. I tell you, they don't want me in the jail 'cause of the all attention I require as diabetic.

One cop in Ft. Lauderdale explained to me "why&what happened to me in Georgia ..." and cops in Fla. just went along for the ride and suspended my DL, so Georgia would have a reason and cause for the penalties imposed. As soon as I was jailed, cops could look into my car for contraband without the warrant.

After USA, I walk. My life is much more peaceful and aggravation free by using public transport. However, as I returned home from Spain in January this year, I got ticket for crossing the road Chinese way .. 40 EUR ...i.e. however you turn, your arse is always behind ya .. angel

    http://asia.nikkei.com/Spotlight/Coronavirus/China-rolls-out-vaccine-passport-aiming-to-revive-foreign-travel

If this goes ahead it would be great news for anyone wanting to get back into China, or for travel anywhere for that matter but even if only China did it it would probably mean the China ESL industry could fire up again. Here's hoping.

    icnif77:

    UN rebuttal ...

    https://sg.news.yahoo.com/un-agency-rejects-covid-vaccine-204052988.html

UN agency rejects Covid vaccine as air travel prerequisite

    Excerpt:

Earlier this month China launched a system of "virus passports" -- or certificates of vaccination -- to try to kickstart international travel.

It was hailed as the world's first virus passport -- similar schemes are also under discussion in the United States and the EU -- but is not mandatory.

"At such time as evidence shows that vaccinated persons would not transmit the SARS-CoV-2 virus or would present a reduced risk of transmitting the virus, member states may exempt such individuals from testing and/or quarantine measures in accordance with a state's accepted risk threshold (and) the Covid-19 situation," the ICAO said.

But it added, "vaccination should not be a prerequisite for international travel."surprise

Yeah, obviously it would need to be shown that the vaccines would prevent you spreading the virus for any travel system built around it to work but if it does play out that way it can only be a good thing I reckon. Personally I think better testing systems will be what opens the world up again but whatever gets us back to normal has my vote.

I am thinking, China won't comply what UN states considering Cofid passports and International travel, i.e. such cert. will be good only for in-China travel 'cause even if the all exiting Chinese have been vaccinated, it's a Q which international destinations will accept such passport. But, entering China, you might be better off with vaccine cert.

There would have to be a lot of trust involved for authorities in country A to accept a piece of paper from someone from country B when country A has no control over the integrity of their vaccine system. And then you'd have someone from country X where everyone knows they're selling vaccine certificates on the street.

My feeling is that after the vaccines are rolled out there will be huge pressure to open up regardless of if they work or not. There's almost literally nothing else out there at the moment, vaccines are the only bullet we have.Carrying on this way isn't much of an option, we might just have to vaccinate, hope for the best, open up and learn to live with whatever the new normal is after that.

The UN are being dicks IMO. I don't see how a vaccine passport would be all that different from a travel bubble and plenty of countries are talking about trying to open them. It sucks if you're not included in a travel bubble because of your covid situation but that's no reason for other countries not to move forward if they can.

I don't remember where it was but I read somewhere that there are almost certainly more strains out there undiscovered but a lot of countries aren't doing the testing for them for whatever reasons. It would suck if we get most of the world vaccinated, numbers start dropping then just when everyone thinks they're almost on top of the situation another strain takes off and puts us back where we started.

Cofid passport isn't equal ... That's not the right term, but some countries have access to vaccine and some don't. So, required Cofid passport for travelling is discriminatory to the latter.

I read at RT, Vlad had offered Sputnik vaccine to EU, but Bruxelles doesn't byte. They are against it. Doesn't matter what West does, they won't be able to dismantle Ruskis, so why not friends ...

If a country says 'we can't allow anyone to enter unless we're confidant they're not a threat to us' who can blame them?

It sucks they don't have access to the vaccine yet, hopefully they will soon but until then we can't let them in - nothing personal but we can't take the risk.

    I don't think it's unreasonable.

China now 'non-compliant' with Hong Kong joint declaration: UK

    Sat, 13 March 2021, 11:54 am

Beijing Thursday rubber stamped new rules that give it powers to veto candidates running in the city as it moved decisively to dismantle Hong Kong's democratic pillars

China is no longer compliant with Hong Kong's joint declaration after Beijing announced sweeping changes to the region's electoral system, Britain said Saturday.

"The UK now considers Beijing to be in a state of ongoing non-compliance with the Sino-British Joint Declaration," the foreign ministry said in a statement.

The treaty was signed before Britain handed Hong Kong back to China in 1997 and was designed to allay fears about its future under Beijing's rule.

It guarantees the financial hub special status including a high degree of autonomy to manage its own affairs and the right to freedom of speech.

But British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said that Beijing's decision "to impose radical changes to restrict participation in Hong Kong's electoral system" was a "further clear breach" of the agreement.

"This is part of a pattern designed to harass and stifle all voices critical of China's policies and is the third breach of the Joint Declaration in less than nine months," he said.

"I must now report that the UK considers Beijing to be in a state of ongoing non-compliance with the Joint Declaration," he added, further ramping up tensions between the two nations.

Britain has been a strong critic of China's crackdown on pro-democracy campaigners in Hong Kong, and angered Beijing by announcing a new visa scheme offering millions of its residents a pathway to British citizenship.

The system went live in January as the city's former colonial master opened its doors to those wanting to escape China's crackdown on dissent.

Exclusive: Uighurs harassed and abused by Beijing in UK, minister admits

    Christopher Hope

    Sat, March 13, 2021, 6:33 PM

    Excerpt ...

The scale of intimidation is laid bare by Rahima Mahmut, the UK director for the World Uighur Congress, in an article for The Telegraph in which she told how “today Uighurs in Britain are silenced".

She said: “One British Uighur woman revealed how she received text messages everyday from Chinese police forces urging her to spy on the lives of her other Uighur in the UK.

“The texts would always contain the ominous warning: ‘remember your mother and your sisters are with us’”.

A British Uighur student told how she was called to the Chinese Embassy in London and “pressured into writing an opinion piece for a newspaper declaring there to be no re-education camps in Xinjiang”.

Ms Mahmut said the student was told: “Remember, your mother and other family members are still in China.”

Ms Mahmut also says the UK should ban “goods made from Uighur forced labour”.

Few O2 containers, beside the Z visa ... angel

    https://news.yahoo.com/flights-canceled-during-chinas-worst-041238209.html

A cyclist and motorists move past office buildings amid a sandstorm during the morning rush hour in the central business district in Beijing, Monday, March 15, 2021. The sandstorm brought a tinted haze to Beijing's skies and sent air quality indices soaring on Monday.

BEIJING (AP) — China’s capital and a wide swath of the country's north were enveloped Monday in the worst sandstorm in a decade, forcing the cancelation of hundreds of flights.

Skyscrapers in the center of Beijing appeared to drop from sight amid the dust and sand. Traffic was snarled and more than 400 flights out of the capital's two main airports were canceled amid high winds and low visibility.

The National Meteorological Center said Monday's storm had developed in the Gobi Desert in the Inner Mongolia Region, where schools had been advised to close and bus service added to reduce residents' exposure to the harsh conditions.

Such storms used to occur regularly in the springtime as sand from western deserts blew eastwards, affecting areas as far as northern Japan.

Massive planting of trees and bushes in fragile areas has reduced the effects on other parts of the country in recent years, but the expansion of cities and industries, along with strip mining and overgrazing, has put constant pressure on the environment throughout China. With its mix of desert and grassy steppe, Inner Mongolia is particularly prone to extreme weather resulting from resource exploitation.

Like COVID-19, which is believed to have spread from bats and other wild animals, sandstorms are a reminder of the need to respect nature, said Zhou Jinfeng, secretary general of the conservation group China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation.

“Together with the pandemic, that’s another big lesson we should take and we should change our behavior," Zhou said.

The National Meteorological Center forecasted the sand and dust would affect 12 provinces and regions from Xinjiang in the far northwest to Heilongjiang in the northeast and the eastern coastal port city of Tianjin.

“This is the most intense sandstorm weather our country has seen in 10 years, as well as it covering the broadest area," the center said in a post on its website.

It wasn't clear if the storm was related to a recent general decline in air quality despite efforts to end Beijing's choking smog.

The ruling Communist Party has pledged to reduce carbon emissions per unit of economic output by 18% over the next five years. Environmentalists say China needs to do more to reduce dependency on coal that has made it the world's biggest emitter of climate changing gasses.weblink ...

surprise Scumbaggery and dishonesty are Chinese cultural treats ...

.. remembering of employer's disrespect of the signed and stamped English teaching contracts angry ...:

    https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/uk-us-slam-chinas-breach-hong-kon...

The UK government has slammed China over it's aggressive and likely irreversible moves to clamp down on Hong Kong's electoral system which many see as but the logical outcome of last summer's sweeping national security law which effectively silenced the anti-mainland opposition. China sees it as "patriotic" reform and a badly needed "overhaul" however.

London now says China is in "a state of ongoing non-compliance" with the Sino-British Joint Declaration which eventually led to the "one country, two systems" status quo in effect for over two decades running.

"Beijing’s decision to impose radical changes to restrict participation in Hong Kong’s electoral system constitutes a further clear breach of the legally binding Sino-British Joint Declaration," Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said in a statement on Saturday.

The statement underscored it was no less than the third breach in under a year: "This is part of a pattern designed to harass and stifle all voices critical of China's policies and is the third breach of the Joint Declaration in less than nine months," Raab's statement went on.

The continuing non-compliance is "a demonstration of the growing gulf between Beijing’s promises and its actions," it continued.

The UK statement expressing outrage over the anti-democratic changes came days after last week's National People's Congress (NPC) move to approve a resolution that imposes sweeping changes on Hong Kong's electoral system which is ultimately aimed to ensure that mainland loyalists are in firm control of running the city

It will in essence give a powerful already largely pro-Beijing election committee oversight to vet candidates for office based on how "pro-China" they are, effectively choking off any opposition hopes for breathing space in the city's government. Their new powers over the Legislative Council (LegCo) which is to also include electing many its members will automatically dilute the number directly elected by the public.

As expected, China has hit back, with the Chinese embassy in the UK promptly rebutting what it called "groundless slanders":

"The U.K. has no sovereignty, jurisdiction or right of 'supervision' over Hong Kong after the handover, and it has no so-called 'obligations' to Hong Kong citizens,” a spokesperson said on Saturday. “No foreign country or organization has the right to take the Joint Declaration as an excuse to interfere in Hong Kong affairs, which are China's internal affairs."

Alongside Washington, London has over the past two years witnessed rapidly deteriorating relations with Beijing, particularly after it offered Hong Kong residents "a path to British citizenship" in direct response to last June's national security law passage.

New Z visa requirement ... Make yerself ready ... surprise

China to let foreigners into the country if they’ve had Beijing-made Covid vaccine

China to let foreigners into the country if they’ve had Beijing-made Covid vaccine

China is set to relax Covid border restrictions and allow foreigners into the country for the first time since it limited most travel last March if arrivals have been vaccinated with a Beijing-made vaccine.

    Mar 16, 2021 13:50

    Quinn68:

If Sinovac is only being distributed in certain countries outside China, then only foreigners from those countries would be eligible to get a China visa. There are clearly no "Beijing made" vaccines being distributed in North America and the UK, forcing any prospective job candidate to travel to a country (assuming they can get in) that is distrubuting those specific vaccines and allowing non-citizens to get it. Along with the anal probes, this is another power play on the part of the Chinese government to exert full control over the types of foreigners entering the country. Anyone who is willing to allow themselves to recieve a highly questionable Chinese made vaccine and then willingly bend over to get a deep probe will probably be a good little foreigner while in China.

That Georgia shooting was faith-based rather than racially motivated. It was directed at sex workers who just happened to be from Asia (Korean nationals). I have never witnessed any Asian discrimination in the US, and I strongly question the accounts of Asia-Americans who say they are being discriminated againt. While it may be happening in backwater towns in the Deep South, racism of any sort is frowned upon (not to mention illegal) in the US. There is far more racism in China against foreigners than there is against Asians in the US.

Chinese are all overboard racist, but they don't give a thought on that. Being tanned Chinese, you are not equal to the pure yellow one 'cause you most likely work outdoors ...

You cannot compare mentality of USA folks and Chinese, who had never left their city ...

A 76-year-old Asian woman reportedly beat up a man who assaulted her in another unprovoked attack in San Francisco, witnesses said. Xiao Zhen Xie was leaning by a light pole while waiting at the traffic light around Market Street in San Francisco when a 39-year-old man approached her and punched her in the face without provocation, according to KPIX.

“Very traumatized, very scared and this eye is still bleeding,” Xie said with the translation help of her daughter, Dong-Mei Li. “The right eye still cannot see anything and still bleeding and we have something to absorb the bleeding.”

Even though she was injured, Xie fought back against the attacker by grabbing a stick and hitting him with it. The woman suffered injuries to her eye and the side of her face while the man was left bloodied.

In a video following the attack, Xie can be seen holding the stick she used to fight back in one hand and an ice bag in the other. "You bum, why did you hit me?" the woman said in Chinese, reported USA Today

Dennis O’Donnell, a Sports Director for KPIX, stumbled into the scene during his morning run and saw the man handcuffed to a stretcher with Xie furiously screaming at him.

"The woman said that she was hit,” O’Donnell said. “She attacked back. From what I could see, she wanted more of the guy on the stretcher and the police were holding her back.” Xie and the unidentified attacker were transferred to the hospital for treatment. angel
