Well, here's the thing: I don't like broccoli, and I don't think there's anything wrong with me abroccality. But I think if I started calling myself the no-broccoli god and making impassioned pleas to the young people of the world not to eat broccoli and lamenting my country's decline into broccoli hedonism, I think that would probably be a good reason for people to speculate that something is very wrong, not with society.

No, a virgin is just someone who hasn't done it before. It has nothing to do with intentions. Also, just because you marry someone doesn't mean you want to do it with them. Who cares how old she is? Some people never do it, some people die without ever doing it, young or old. It's not the be all end all of existence, you know. The fact that she is proud of herself, and that she's happy with her life...that rings true to asexuality. I think everybody is concentrating too much on her, and not her message (which is positive, by the way). People look down on her. Why? Because they either think she is lying, or that she's proud of something they see as stupid. If she is happy with her life, then good for her, even if we think it's a little silly.

Jnus, I think the problem is pretty much as Kchur put it - being asexual is fine. Trying to get others to do the same isn't.
I agree with most of what you said, but not that bit.
I can't necessarily agree that it's a 'positive' message though.. why is it positive? That would imply that having sex is 'negative'... Being happy and safe is a positive message.

Yeah, I agree, if people want to have sex before marriage or before they have a steady relationship, that's fine. It's their choice. But the only 100% guarantee someone will not become pregnant is through abstinence, not to mention STD's. Remember, a lot of people in China are not educated about this sort of thing. People who don't like her message can just ignore her. I figured she wasn't talking to other 30 year old ladies, but the younger crowd. I could be wrong. However, as a woman, I think a lot of people don't take the possible consequences of sex seriously enough.

Are we talking about her specifically? I responded to your comment about her having to be butt ugly, not to WHY she chose to remain a virgin, or WHY she preaches abstinence to the young. Why does it matter to you if she, or anyone, wants to remain a virgin forever or if whoever wants to bang anything that will be still long enough for her to saddle up? Let me reiterate, my comment was in reference to YOUR "butt ugly" comment, NOT about the article. Two different things. I hope you can understand that.
Again, it is her choice, and for you to make assumptions like that is very immature. I hate to tell you, but it is MUCH easier for an unattractive woman to get laid than it is for an unattractive man, unless he pays for it.
People are virgins for all kinds of different reasons, but bottom line, it's their decision and for anyone to belittle that reason is absolutely asinine.

As far as people shoving their beliefs down others' throats... I agree. I have my core values and beliefs, as is my right, and I'm thrilled you have your own. I don't care if you are a broccoli hedonist, a caulifloweric, or a snow peafarian. We can share our ideas, discuss our ideas, but don't shove your beliefs down my throat and tell me I'm going to hell if I don't convert, and I won't choke you, shoot you, or throw you in a den of hungry wolves
That being said.... whether she is a virgin or a pink district hooker, what makes her any different than what they are trying to teach in schools, what many religious leaders preach, what parents hope for?

I don't think this person needs my approval, it's none of my business how someone lives, the mistake here is that she is trying to make others think this is an exceptable life style. To that I can't agree, crap I think I'd go crazy. I don't know how you'd stand it being a virgin for that long, unless you are asexual. I walk down the street and I'm in heat.

Nothing wrong with being crazy or eccentric.
Just don't preach about it.
