China, Canada to mutually grant 10-year visas 今起中加互发10年签证. Great news for my Canadian friends, now the U.S and Canada have a 10 year visa deal, always good to have a longterm backup.
9 years 3 weeks ago in Visa & Legalities - China
Looks like China is desperate for more foreign experts, especially highly qualified people like engineers. Recent news about twice as many foreigners leaving the country than moving in were not fake apparently.
Good news for Canadians who wish to work in China anyway, bad news for Canadians in Canada because who wants more Mainland Chinese around even if temporary.

Correct, they weren't fake, I got tons of friends and old contacts till this day asking me if I have any friends or wish to switch jobs.
Hey! I just heard about this from a Chinese friend. No details.
Do you know any details??? Im assuming it would be very similar to the US deal. But I dont know anything about it yet.
Is it a business visa??? Or a work visa??? Any stipulations like you must leave every month??
Ive never had an issue getting a Z visa, but if this is something you can do once and forget about it for ten years, definitely worth looking in to.

Visas are not residence permits. They (usually) do not grant a right for immigration, or extended stays (more than 90 days usually so you can guess it will be the lengths of permitted stays, beyond that you are a resident).
The target audience of those visas are people who need to travel frequently, not foreign residents. The article mentions specifically "Business" and "Family". So, it's intended for businessmen who make the regular trip or mixed families who return once a year. No change regarding work or immigration, and the holders of such visas will not be entitled to social benefits. So it's a good bargain for Canada. Until agencies find out how it can be abused.

ah RiriRiri, we don't know how to break this to you gently, but we already knew that...
RiriRiri:
Yeah yeah yeah, people always knew stuff forever, just after someone actually did the research, you know, when it's safe.
Judging by the utter bullcrap I read about administrative procedures and especially regarding visas and especially from you, there is no condescending card to be played here.
So if you are married to Chinese national can you get the 10 year visa or is this exclusive for engineers and scientists?
Do I have to leave the country to obtain this visa?
Any links to more info plz? Finally, some good news... well except for more Chinese moving to Canada... I dunno how I feel about that since Vancouver is basically Chinatown now.

im pretty sure this is not going to have any positive effect on either of us man. If I had to guess its only for business visas. You would need to fly to HK or some other country every month or three.
This is more for people like my boss. Lives in N/A and comes to our factory twice a year. Stays for a week or two then screws off. He will only need to get the visa once. not have to deal with the bullshit every time. Or my momma who comes once a year. Things like that, For those of us that live here, I would guess that the visas we currently have now are the better option.
It also strikes me that this same deal happened for Americans like what 6 months or a year ago now?? We havent heard jack from the yanks and their amazing new visa.
Eorthisio:
Agree with Mike, if it's the same as Americans it only applies to business travellers, not your average expat in China. Might be a good deal if you have a company in China and can set up your office to be operated remotely, you can live in a better place while growing your business in China and only show up once a month or twice a year.

I heard it was the business visa or tourist visa for 10 years, but Q visa's would still apply to married folks here and the highest amount of years is still 5.
Guys, the same invitation letters that have been used for years to get folks a F or M visa still gets you a 10 year biz visa for U.S folks, I've already met a few guys from the U.S that now have the 10 year business visa and they got it pretty easy. It's gold. If you don't know about visa or how it works under the table than don't talk about it unless you know it. My friends across the border in Canada will also get this golden visa too.
This 10 years visa thing... A lot of good entrepreneur in China are Chinese who moved abroad, studied in prestigious universities (typically, in USA and Canada) and the worked several years abroad. Being pragmatic, they got US or Canada citizenship, bought a house there, there kids live their, etc. Chinese government created incentive for those people to come back and create technology companies, with quite a few successes : the solar power industry, the biotech industry of China is made on the shoulders of those recent returnee...
One of the common rant of those people is sorting out their visa issues, as they often have to go back and forth between America and China. 10 years visa, *bam*, fixed. The occasional foreigner, either specialist or manager also have some benefit, but it's a minority compared to that group I mention.
