Q: With 1.5 Billion people, how come China cannot field a fantastic soccer team?

Look at the Netherlands, a tiny country with a great team. I see Chinese playing soccer everywhere. What's up with this?

they do not have the skill or train the guys to become the top tens in the world. there is a lot of corruption in upper level so managing a team, building their spirit is not what chinese can do about it. creativity is far more important you already know they lack creativity .

china has the wrong idea about athletics period. it is only about winning in the olympics instead of for pure competition. they do not have sports leagues (from 5- ?)  so how and when are they supposed to learn and develop? everyone needs the opportunity to participate in sports from an early age.

I've read that it's due to being too selfish. TRUE!!!! Many Chinese are selfish and inconsiderate and only think of themselves! :(

I think it is the same question you can ask from India..being 1.10 billion population why they dont have but they are current world cup champion in Cricket Game..it depends upon what they have inherited..

I think the Chinese lack passion in team sports. Most Chinese athletes are focused on being the star - center of attention rather than just being a team player and contributor to success.

I sort of agree with Shorty - UNLESS the athletes are getting paid big bucks to play. I think they see the green the NBA players are taking down so that is where they gravitate.

giadrosich:

Of course you agree with Shorty, considering it's just you under a different name.

Corruption. The best players don't make the team, it's the sons of officials...etc. Who do. Chinese have complained about this online for years.

Corruption aside, China has the money and human resources to develop a world-class, professional soccer/football program on a national/international level. (Not to mention local, school-sponsored, city-wide, provincial, grassroots "farm" programs that could potentially feed upper, more developed, competitive league play, that. in turn, could ultimately propel the country into the big-time spotlights governed by FIFA, the IOC and other giant governing bodies of the sport.

But no one has taken the time or initiative to teach the Chinese how to evolve a sport, with the possible exception of the monolithic NBA. Kids everywhere in China today are shooting hoops, wearing bb shoes to school, and idolizing the likes of Kobi and Lebron.

it takes a well-organized (and expensive) committee of foreign experts to rock up, set the stage and ground rules, pump a lot of (honest) money into promoting the sport - from the classroom to the stadia and the teams, bolstered by kick-ass media blitzes on CCTV - to evolve the sport. It helps to contract big names in the field, as well, to play in China for a season or two - the charisma factor - but one of the important elements in developing public acceptance and interest in the sport {or any sport, for that matter) is exciting and innovative TV coverage.

It isn't the millions of potential fans and players in China that are keeping football on the back burner. It's the people who are running the show - from the minor school officials in every urban and rural school in the country to the very top echelons of the bureaucratic pecking order in certain ministries of the gubment.

China could dominate the football world - given the right opportunities.

**** athletics. Actually, the questions should be why can't many of them (There are some decent Chinese people..thank God.) act civilly, respectfully and with some tolerance towards foreign people. :( ANSWER::

Because they ARE CHINESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY DON"T GIVE A **** ABOUT ANYONE BUT THEMSELVES..HIGHLY RACIST,ARROGANT,ETHNOCENTRIC,PREJUDICED,INTOLERANT,ILL-MANNERED,RIDICULOUS AND DISRESPECTFUL BY AND LARGE TOWARDS FOREIGN PEOPLE! :( THAT IS JUST A FACT!!!!!!!!!!!! (Which millions of people have experienced and can attest to!.) * I don't care if you are of African,European,Asian..other than Chinese,Latin,Native American, etc. heritage or ethnicity. I don't care if you're from the East or West. I don't care if you're an American Born Chinese..or a Canadian Born Chinese, etc. ** Did I leave anyone out? ** You WILL BE discriminated against, laughed at,disrespectfully talked about when you are present or behind your back..that includes if you're with your Chinese spouse or boyfriend/girlfriend,cheated,lied to,taken advantage of in ANY way possible, lied about, rudely stared at,rudely pointed at,etc. ** Did I leave anything out? :( All done.

With football you need to have passion as well as skill.

China doesn't have the passion for football (like it does for basketball.)
