To every Australian expat on this forum, today marks what will be a historic match of Aussie rules..

Freo VS. Hawks, who will take home flag this year?

And where is everyone watching the game from?

G'day Masonk, just saw your question.

I tipped Freo because I thought do what they do and smother Hawks to the point of panic.

The big surprise for me was how well Hawthorn turned to tables on Freo!

I live in a remote place with no bars, no foreigners etc, so stayed home for the game.

All season I'd been able to listen to games live through the AFL website...could even choose which radio station I preferred, which was like...loooxery!!!

However, for the big game, and against my better judgement, I paid the dough to be able to watch the GF.

This, not surprisingly, turned out to be a complete waste of money as the streaming quality was hopeless.

Didn't bother me too much though as I really do prefer radio commentary.  Throughout the afternoon I was able to enjoy callers such as Tim Lane, Drew Morphett, Gerard Whately and even Rex Hunt.  As well as comments from Stan Alves, Mark McLure, Terry Wallace and Tony Shaw.

Had a great time with my mate Pat Malone, all dressed up my Tiger's regalia and managed to have a gutfull of grog.

The next day I listened to the game again called by Rampaging Roy Slaven and H, G, Nelson.

All up I was pretty happy with GF weekend.  Next year I hope Pat and I can share the occaision with a person.

Where did you watch the game yourself?

Cheers!

Hi Royce,

I watched it in my apartment in Shanghai, I was a bit disappointed by it, it reminded me of the 2005/06 GF's, all other GF's in previous years have been more interesting (especially the 2012 one)

What team do you barrack for?

Enjoy!

Yes you are quite right in your comparisons, it was a little dour... but I sure enjoyed it anyway.

I'm a Tiger man, man!  And have some high expectations for this year....same as I do for every year.  But this year....THIS YEAR!  Bring it on!

How about yourself, Masonk?

masonk:

My old man used to play for the port adelaide magpies reserves team in the 70's, but it's been a mixture of teams since then, my dad barracks for collingwood, richmond and port, as he is longtime mates with David Cloke. Mum on the other hand loves the Swannies because of plugger, she used to have a crush on him back in his heyday.

As for me I grew up loving Collingwood and Richmond, I also have a soft spot for Port and cheered em on when they beat the Pies last year in the elimination final.

Good to hear from ya royceH, hope you're as excited as I am for the beginning of the next footy season!

Enjoy!

Can the Hawks pull back to back premierships this year?

brother1818:

Can Geelong make another run at it... Wouldn't count them out. Hawks looking very strong though!

I reckon Freo might slip from the top 4.. last year was pretty average with predictability, I hope this season will show us Port making a move up the ladder.

Here's my top 8 ladder prediction for this year:

1. Hawthorn

2. Sydney

3. Geelong

4. Richmond

5. Port Adelaide

6. North Melbourne

7. Collingwood

8. Essendon

How'd you drop Freo right out of the top 8? Bit drastic no? agree with the rise of North but not above Collingwood. My Top 8 would look like this.

1. Hawthorn

2. Sydney

3. Richmond

4. Geelong

5. Colingwood

6. Port

7. Essendon

8. Freo

I reckon north are in for a good year, Dal Santo and Macdonald will fill some gaps they need, they weren't so close off last year neither had they won those close ones.

As for my pies could go either way, but i see them finishing roughly around the same as last year, they'll have another crack at it in 15'

I know its a bit drastic but I reckon they'll have an off year, but it can go either way.

who do you barrack for brother1818?

brother1818:

For Geelong. I did a student exchange program to Australia back in '04 and the family I stayed with had season tickets for the Cats. So we went to every home game while I was there and have loved it ever since. Proud to be a Cats fan because when I started following them they were fighting it out with Richmond for the wooden sppon pretty much. and then went on to become a dynasty under Bomber Thompson.

Geelong had it pretty rough back in the day.. Great team, always have been, I remember growing up and seeing them lose so many grand finals (i think it was something like 6 grand final losses) so it must be great for catter fans to finally get a taste, I reckon you guys will be right without Chapman, Corey, Hunt and Pods, you guys good been at the trade table.

MasonK....are you drunk in control of your keyboard, or what??

Was your old man playing at Port under the name MasonK?  I lived in Adelaide in the early 70's...seems like I remember a MasonK...

I'll gladly share my tips with you, but not yet.

masonk:

My dad played with port reserves for 2 seasons in 66', 67' and half of the 68' season before he decided to move to Melbourne. Name was Freddie Kahn

Given that you've lived through the 70's tells me that you are a lot older than me mate hahaha

Cheers
