Q: 3-day growth in public...
How would locals percieve it? I mean, given some attitudes that we think are either repellent (loud gobbing) or just silly (pyjamas..wtf?) - how would a laowai with a 3-day growth be seen (especially since so many locals can't get one 
)
hey buddy we are foreigners in this country,but they love and respect us what for we behave other not we wears....so it doesn't matter at all...enjoy the china life....!!!!
I have never gone past a day and a half.
But in light of this post I will conduct a social experiment and go at least 3 days without shaving...all wild.
I will report back with my findings, interview transcripts and polling results soon!

Unfortunately after 2 days the gf said no shave no fun time, so she wins again. I will be attempting this again as soon as I get a 3 or 4 day break from her.
For foreigners (as long as not against work policy) I don't think it's much of a big deal. Just don't expect a lot of kisses from the ladies, as many of them don't like it (especially stubble).

I NEVER expect action from the ladies... OTOH, my ex (Chinese) actually preferred me with a stubble! She liked rubbing her face against it...
The girls had a hard time with my stubble by night time. Three days stubble gets softer, 4 days its a beard, 5 days and a full moon and I'm a werewolf.
It doesn't matter, as long as there isn't a Chinese face behind it.
I shave monthly, only shave my cheeks and neck regularly. I only fully shave when my beard gets out of control. Ideally I like the sweet spot of after stubble and before beard, but my beard trimmer doesn't work here so I go in cycles.
They're going to stare at your white face, not your beard. I do think girls prefer no beard, if that's what you're after.
