Q: Is 350rmb per hour an accetable :"rate"?
just wondering...the guy seems rather happy that I 'only" charge him 250rmb for my english services...

The acceptable rate is whatever they will pay. I have no limits on this. My rate will change depending on the customer. Corporate clients pay a premium up to 500rmb per hour in some cases. Private classes begin at 250rmb and increase depending on the number of students. No "friend" discounts here.
Are you thinking of raising your rate for this particular client? I imagine it's acceptable for you.

a fu er dai who doesn't know the difference between a verb and a noun...so each lesson would be 70% in Chinese...

If it takes you a whole lesson to teach anybody the difference between a noun and a verb, I am sure 350 rmb is more than sufficient!
