Q: Is 7,000 RMB a good salary for living in Chengdu?
I am foreign, so...is 7.000 RMB a good salary, to ask, as salary expectation, at Chengdu? I mean for living...is it a reasonable salary? I don't want to be rich, and just to live for some months...
It depends on what you are going to be doing. ESL Teachers in public primary schools in Chengdu are on average of 4-6k rmb.
I'd want 60,000 a month , because I can spend that much easily.. I don't know how you can survive on that amount. I just figured 2 meals out for two and a couple of drinks in the evening to be 350y or 10700 a month.
DaBen:
How fancy do you eat? Noodles and fried rice cost what 6 rmb around you? But ok, let's say you go fancy noodles for lunch, 15 rmb each, and you and your lady share three dishes for dinner and three beers, 54 rmb, (that's going for the nicer dishes rather than the 5-10 rmb dishes). That's still 2604 for a 31 day month. Buy a bottle of whiskey or wine each week for a night cap or two and it's still only 3400. You can even include a few nice restaurants for date nights and still keep it under 4000.
TedDBayer:
I never ate alone and never had a bill under 125y,, even in crappy looking places,, I meant to try noodles but didn't,, always ordered chicken (surprise me) I was spending 2000 to 3000 y a day,, don't follow my example.
It seems liveable, so depends on the working hours...
Also depends if your a bar-goer (or fond of all things western)
I'm making 9000rmb a month and have a 2000rmb a month housing allowance. If they aren't helping you with rent then you're getting screwed.
make your own decision by yourself.
nevermind:
Yes, and don't come here daring to ask for some insight from those who know. Go out there and allow yourself to be taken advantage of without ANY research. Turd.
Just put it this way it could be better than some people that are making a lot less. It doesn't matter how much you make if you can take what you make and make it grow even bigger than yes it is a good salary....
I'd make sure that decent quality housing is included. If it is, then you should be absolutely fine.
With that said, you won't actually save much of that if you spend much time in expat bars or eat western often; on that salary if you want to save, you'll have to live local.
7,000 is great, 6,000 is good, 5,000 is workable. If you aren't looking to save a lot of money, something in the range of 4,500-6,500 is fine for Chengdu. In my opinion, money < free time. Those (english teachers) pulling in 8,000+ are working 30-40 hours a week. I make only around 6,000-7,000 without housing, but work around 15 hours a week. I can't teach more than a few hours a day without going crazy.
Depends how you live and what the job is. you can live anywhere in China on 7000, so long as you're not in the bar EVERY night. I would imagine house prices are cheaper there too so I reckon its fine. Just depends what job you're doing, and the hours etc
Just throwing in some more numbers. Average cost of housing for decent apartment if living by yourself is 1500-2000. Spending 750 a week, or roughly 107 per day (which is really quite high for Chengdu, unless you do a lot of shopping), puts you at around 3,000 a month for food/entertainment/miscellaneous. Leaving you with at least 2,000 saved a month. Again, you won't have much saved, but if you aren't focused on making money 7,000 (even without housing) is very very good for Chengdu. Throw in the random bonuses, travel allowance and other part-time work, and you'll have more than enough to enjoy the high-life.
seems ok , just check the rent there and the and at what price the taxi starts when you going some where is it 6 7 10 12 you will guess it then and if you are living for some months i dont think its a big problem and also depend on your working hours
comparing with local chinese salary.it's place of middle and bound to up scale
it is enough for your life.if you do not cost too much on shopping.i think you can save much money.
not bad.............will get you running a decent life but can't save much for your future plans like buying a house or a car or travelling here and there
