Q: Affirmative action in China for little people and disabled people?

Are there programs to help these people find jobs in China or not?

I remember reading there was a whole village in China full of little people, where they put on performances,  but hopefully that's not their only career choice...

Affirmative action? In China? Think about that for a moment. After due reflection, I would think it is practically non-existent. That would mean giving someone a job based upon qualifications instead of "who you know," or physical appearance (as in being pretty). Employers are not bound by any regulations (so it seems) or rules in regards to who they hire.

How many wheelchair ramps have you ever seen into businesses? Or residences? When I've seen people in wheelchairs in public, someone is usually pushing them down the street amongst the traffic.

I could be wrong, but China doesn't seem like a particular friendly place for disadvantaged folks. And please, someone, don't mention the grooved areas on the sidewalks. Like that is a lot of help for blind people!

The only think that I've noticed is that all Chinese television comes with subtitles at the bottom of the screen, but I don't think that is done particularly with the deaf in mind, but due to the fact that the government is trying to push a standardized language, which in and of itself is not a bad thing.

As far as the little people are concerned, if that wasn't their only career choice, many probably would have left the village by now for greener pastures elsewhere. Just saying...

No, they do not have this kind of protection. In fact, they are often discriminated against just because of their condition.

In China, employers can and do hire or not hire people based on whether they are attractive enough or not, so a person in a wheel-chair, or who has a prosthetic or a little person usually do not stand a  chance.

In many places in the West, like in the US, when this kind of discrimination occurs, the discriminated person has a legal recourse in the ADA (Americans With Disabilities Act).  Sadly, those kinds of protections do not exist everywhere.
