Q: After 4 months here I think I hate this country, is it normal?
When I arrived to China I was super excited about everything. It was like a dream. I thought about how amazing this country was and I was in love with my decision to come here.
After four months everything has completly changed. My personal situation is good (good job and salary and nice apartment) but I feel angry all the time. I don't know why but I just can't stand chinese people. They're always lying, they are noisy, they don't care about the others...And it's not only that, I'm sick of the pollution, of the way they drive, their education system...almost everything. I can't understand why my mind has changed so quickly but now I'm in really bad mood about China, I see all really dark.
Is it normal to feel like that? I make this question to you because all the foreigners I know agree with me in most of the parts, they are also sick of a lot of things here...
In September I'm going back to my country but I feel like it's going to be a long time...even if when I came here I thought that it was going to be a short time...

I don't hate anyone for simple reason: 'I don't like to put bad things into my heart!'
In China, I am keep saying: 'Stupid, stupid!'
I say it at least 4 times per hour, when I'm outside of my apartment or classroom. It is an expression of my observations, but I don't hate them! Chinese have their own reasons for their behavior.

Allowing hate to live rent-free in your heart is the worst mistake most people make. Life is too short not to love everything and everyone that lets you.
Ask yourself, In your heart of hearts...Do you really hate people (Human Beings) or is it just that your emotions have the better of you..?
Hate begets Hate my friend, when you hate you become unhealthy, when you become unhealthy you live life at the base. Rise above and put the entirety of the world in perspective all that you know and feel.
It will do you know good.
My first few months were also difficult - trust me. But your future happiness depends on you. Except that things are way different here, you are not going to change a culture. But be - don't become synical. The Chinese are really sweet (if lying) in person. Outside - they are ruthless c*nts. But - remember with this many people, you have to have the me first instinct. I have been here 2.5 years, and have found as my Chinese has gotten better, life is less frustrating - that said - some days, GRRRRRRR. The idea of going home is so boring to me. Stay and adapt, or quit and go home. No place is perfect. At least we can get good jobs and be safe here. That said - I am American, but would live in Australia in a heart beat - given the opportunity. Good luck. Try not to be angry. It is what it is. You came here.

However, I agree - your emotions, your choice!
If you hang on, you'll eventually get used to it.
The important thing is, think about what you have there that you wouldn't have back home.
(For me, said thing was "fun")

There is nothing wrong with the way you feel about China..We all felt the same way when we first came here,but i can tell you,now,after 4 years here,i see everything different and i really enjoy living in China.
When i first came here,every time i walked into a bank or a post office,every time i went to the markets to buy something,i wanted to scream,even crossing a busy road was so stressfull for me.
That was then.Now i have a big circle of friends ,both Chinese and foreigners,i know enough Chinese to go by even on my own and i really love living here.
I do not think Chinese people are racist.I you want to see racism,go to Australia ( that is where i come from),but here,no way.
Ordinary Chinese people believe all foreigners are full of money and they will try to get some of your money if they can,but that happens anywhere in the world.
Just think for a minute how much a foreign teacher gets paid ( an average 10.000 RMB a month) and how much a Chinese English teacher gets paid ( around 2,800 RMB a month) and you will understand some of the resentment towards foreign teachers.
Have a look around and watch the way a lot of foreigners carry on in China, showing off with their money,ignorant and arrogant of everything and anyone, showing their displeasure loudly and you will understand how Chinese people look at us.
To them we are a neccesary evil.They let us come here,so we can train their people and they pay us very well for that. The best we can do,is try to blend in with the local people and the Chinese way of life and dont try and compare it with our countries and for the ones who cant do it,the best way is a plane back to where they came here from.China is not going to change for us,we have to change and try to fit in.Once you lived here for a while and you start making local friends,everything is different.That is when you will understand China is a great country to live and work without the stress we have to live with,in our western countries.
This is a country with 7.000 years of rich history and culture and what we are witnessing now is the transformation of an old society to a modern one and yes,many mistakes are made and many things are wrong,because everything is changing so fast,actually too fast for most ordinary Chinese people,but try and overlook that and you will have a great time here.
This is just my opinion of course. Everybody to their own.

Artie. Please do not say you are Australian, when it is obvious you are not. Your post is nothing more than pushing the party line, and attacking the west, the same as so many others here posing as foreigners.
No Australian would believe that Australia is more racist than China. We do not have government sanctioned racism in Australia, and do not teach racial hatred in schools as part of the curriculum.
We do not have race riots of the frequency and scale of the government incited race riots in China. The anti-Japanese riots last year were just the latest example of decades of government sanctioned racism and race hatred. Can you give me comparable examples of race riots in Australia?
No foreigner that has lived in China for 4 years would believe for a second that China had a 7,000 year history. The histories quoted by the Chinese government are only supported by Chinese historians, and not by the rest of the world.
Only a racist Australian would not mention the 40,000 year history of Australia, while holding forth on another country's lies about it's history. Do you deny that Australian Aborigines have the longest continuous culture of any race on Earth?
No foreign teacher believes that most foreign teachers make 10,000 a month, or that 10,000 a month is a good living, compared to other foreigners in China. Most Chinese teachers make more than foreign teachers through grey money, including bribes and corruption, which would see them jailed in Australia. That's without the expenses of international travel and Hong Kong visa runs, which can use up a large part of the salary.
You have also made the common Chinese error of using the lower case "i" instead of the upper case "I" throughout your anti-western tirade, as well as not putting spaces after punctuation.

Actually, yesterday was the fifth anniversary of the National Apology to Australian Aboriginals by former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. It was an apology that the Aboriginal people accepted warmly, and has helped to heal the wounds between the cultures.

I can understand the frustrations people are having as I've experienced them myself occasionally too. the anger, the rage, injustice and cheating
However, always remember that no one gives the @#$@ here, no body cares so why should you? and why should I? just ignore it, don't fight the tide, ride along and keep an open mind.
try not to take things personally even though they may seem otherwise. place all those annoying Chinese things at the farthest rear in your mind, let them stay forever at the recesses of your memory, rise above it and come out strong and be a champion.
focus on all the positive aspects of your life here in this moment that you actually are living instead of wasting it getting angry at the rude driver honking his horn as he zooms right passing you, does that person give a second thought for you? no, will that person think about his actions? no. so don't waste a second thinking about or and getting angry.
one of these days, that today will be your last day of your life, and looking back at all those times you got angry, sad and frustrated; did any of it really matter in the end?

I wanna say again,I never hate a place or a person..Clearly you've got me prejudged "as a Chinese", I guess we're all the same to you.
As I know, you just have been living in China for several months and I assure you that you don't know much about Chinese people especially the young generation, We don't "HATE" Japan,it's all the past,what we need to do is,move forward,there is no benefits for us if we hate each other as we need each other so much. Some probably don't like Japan. I am not a fan of Japanese government,but for the people there,I have no problems to deal with them
Why I said,better not to use such a strong world "Hate" ,as If you hate a place,You won't enjoy anything there,and It's not good for your well being.
All I'm saying is if you're going to stay here, find a way to make it work for you.
I do agree with what some people said, you should focus on all the positive part.

I've been reading your comments and you seem to be a modern and enlightened Chinese girl. Each new generation in China will continue to modernize their thinking as they learn more and more about the outside world. But I have to tell you there are lots of young people (believe me, I talk to plenty) who hate Japanese (their words, not mine). Most of them don't even know why. Most of them are still holding on to war crimes that happened before their parents were even born. The new generation in China is getting better, but they are still largely ignorant and easily pursuaded. Remember, the textbooks in school still haven't changed! Propaganda from the history teachers hasn't changed. Your advantage is that you have everyday influence from a westerner. This makes a big difference that most youngsters in China do not have.

I'm sorry for prejudging you, but I did that because ALL the chinese people I know "Hate" Japan. But it's great to hear that some of you don't ^o^
I totally understand what you mean, but you forget that we are talking about feelings. You just can't control them. Even if I would be much more happier if love the country, I can't forget the fact that, actually, I don't! So there's nothing I can do to change it.
