Obviously this depends where you're from, though I'm just speaking for Brits here. I've lived through five Chinese summers (one in Guangxi, 4 in Beijing) and have seen it all when it comes to crazy temperatures and humidity.
However, the 35+ degree thing doesn't bother me at all anymore and it's become the norm - strong words for a red-headed, pale-skinned Brit I know. Anyway, Beijing had a massive thunderstorm yesterday and temperatures after dropped to around 25, and I actually felt a tiny chill. Strange, considering back home people moan about it being too hot when it's only 22.
Anyway, to those of you living here long term, how do you deal with the rubbish summers (if you have them) back home?
I miss those cooler temperatures terribly. While back home (southeastern US) can get hot, it won't get this hot this long (high's here have been above 100°F for I don't know how many days in a row now). Today, it's only supposed to get to 97, and it's weird for 97 to feel "cool". My mom sent me a photo of the thermometer on the back porch of their house the other day: 60°F (about 15°C for you "worldly" folks).
I'm home now and these days it's extremely hot-around 40 degrees. I'm supposed to move to Hangzhou at the end of the month, so not quite sure where to use the expression cooler temperatures.
summer in the Nth East of China is a walk in the park compared to some places in Australia including QLD.
I'm Canadian and I'm sick of being cold. Too hot? Hell it's free heat. This summer has been so cool I didn't even put plates on my bike, average 10* at night, day 20-30*
Extremely hot in north-western Europe last month: 30 degrees . I like to take a break at home with the cool breezes and gentle rain, before being ready for another 10+ months in China.
