Q: After A Lot of Thought.
After a lot of thought
I'm planning on going home to New Zealand, its going to take some planning. Set a date for August next year. That's if all goes well.
My wife is Chinese my son is Chinese and it would be good for them to meet my family.
My reason for going back, this lock down put a lot of stress on our marriage. not much money coming in. I have been working for the same boss for 18 years and still get treated like crap. She cant even be bothered to answer the phone or reply back to mesgs. I have given her 18 years always worked hard only to be cheated scammed ripped off.
I feel that that being here in China is not so easy any more and yes half of it is my problem, no degree.
I think going back home will be a positive experience for my son he can go to school, sports, fresh air, calm meets the family for the 1st time.
My wife is happy with the idea of going back. Its better than just sitting around and getting cheated by your boss.
This is my 22 year in China had a lot of ups and downs been through a lot.
Good on ya mate, when it's time to move on it's time to move on. If you need any help at this end let me know.
Sending you a P.M...

Rob, that is a life time there you are talking about. 22 years odf your life. You must be 40 something of age. Whatever you plan to do, do it with all your heart, indeed. It is wonderful that you have plans. It is necessary that you have plans and changes such as going back home it will enhance on a better vision of options you may want and consider. The meeting of your parents and that of your family with your parents wil give you a great boost in terms of options.
You said about half of the issue for being cheated and ripped off by your employer. It will be useful for many that we know who that was. Although, I totally would understand it not to discolose it on this website at all. I strongly advise you that, once home, you do your work and get those degrees. It doesn't matter the age. It matters to those people as you said about your boss who will easily find it their opportunity to lower you monthly and hourly pay '"because you are not qualified".
I don't believe in that value of degrees. I believe in the hand on demonsration of your skills, knowledge, values and atittudes. That is what matters. To any business that is what ads value and makes the money.
I won't enter into the abuses of these things, anyway. I encourage you: by all means get your degrees! You will find accomplishment and wider horizon of opportunities will open up straigt afterwards, not to mention of your self appreciation, motivation and respect towards yourself and the rest around you. UNfortunately, yes, indeed, it is what in China matters in the eyes even of those students you teach. Get your diplomas whatsoever and complete the process you may have stopped it 22 years ago so you can become more than you are today.
However, that is just a thought and although irrelevant that it might be to you, I sincerely believe, it is the next stage to go up in your life.
Have courage and accomplish dreams that may have stucked once upon a time. Make them real. There is still time to do it.
All the baest to you and your family, back home.
You've lasted long enough as an English teacher in China ... and being disregarded by your employer despite you have a Chinese family and remained at the same Training mill for so long.
It doesn't matter what you do or have in China, you'll always be a waiguoren.
I know, I wouldn't ( I didn't! ) tolerate any of the contract's disrespects by my employers and if I wouldn't receive support out of Chinese Labour authorities, I'd move out of China very early on ... per short notice.
I am sure, NZ will be blast for you and your family after such a long absence ... I am following matters in NZ daily through the NewsHub 'cause I like your accent ... and will for sure come for a visit to NZ one day.
Best to you and your family in your home country!
P.S.
Don't ever miss the 'Answers' board once you're in NZ!
My computer is being fixed

You might want to think to get a new one in HK before you leave for NZ.
Taxes for the electronics in western countries are killer ...
Was looking for the new Mac M1 and cities around the world with the lowest prices are: HK, Singapore and USA.
Price in EU or UK is around 300 EUR higher than elsewhere and I will make trip to HK or USA to nearly break even with the flight ticket included.
It's never too late to take a chance. Good luck.
Life is full of adventures.
Have you left yet? Your original post says you will in 2023.
we ended up getting an apartment just out side of shenzhen.put a deposit down.it will be ready for decoration around march next year.after alot of thought we felt this was the best idea.
it will also give our son something for the future.

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2023-10-27/slaughter-new-zealand
New Zealand is a small country yet it often serves as a useful microcosm of events in other parts of the world.
At present men and women are being slaughtered.
Within the last few days Liz Gunn, head of NZ Loyal, one of the few political parties willing to speak out revealed leaked documents indicating that tens of thousands of the population have died from the experimental gene therapy. If you appreciate that the population of New Zealand is just 5 million it gives some idea of the scale of the slaughter. In one clinic in one day 30 people were given the jab. All 30 are now dead.
I skimmed the article quickly ... TERRIFYING!
I left just over three years ago. Best choice I ever made. I was there for around 12 years. I also had the problem with no degree. The government expects people with degrees to go and teach English and all these people have an actual degree. What a waist of a degree. The money spent on getting an actual degree and then working as an English teacher in China... well that is pretty much an idiotic thing to do.All those years of studying and you go work in China as an English teacher. You should see what my friends that have degrees have accomplished in their respective fields. Mind you have have worked with people that had a degree and they couldn't teach for shit. Why you would need a degree to play the white lowai monkey buffles my mind.
