Q: Airport Hotel GZ

Hi Everybody!

Im arriving next week and my flight gets in late so my school have told me to get a hotel and they'll collect me in the morning.

I'm flying into Guangzhou International, can anyone recommend a nice hotel to stay in that's close to the airport, preferably with a pick up service?

Thanks! Smile

take a look at: hotels.com

you should be able to find one that suits your budget AND filter for those near the airport.

good luck!

The GZ Airport has a Pullman Hotel, they are usually pretty great. But, if that is your start of your China experience, then it will all be down hill from there. (and with less cash in your wallet)
If your employer asks you to check into a hotel, it doesn't seem unreasonable if they also at least suggest you a hotel, and perhaps assist with booking a room.

http://www.agoda.com/yuwa-hotel/hotel/guangzhou-cn.html?type=1&site_id=1...

Hotels in China are not booked/full, and IMO reservation is not required. Land and ask at Airport info about closest Hotel.

Ask your School to tell you, which Hotel is the closest to Airport.

Look at Agoda link above for more.

Kaiwen:

Not the best idea to wait until you land if you are a newcomer to China. The booking desks at the airport are agents and will quote you the least competitive deal if they think you have no idea of prices in China. Be careful!

Her school is a bit 'wooden', I'd say.

They told her to stay overnight in Hotel. She should asked: 'Which one do you recommend? Can you book room for me, please?'

I never book hotel in advance in China. I had problems in Beijing, because some Hotels close to the W. Railway Station weren't authorised to house foreigners, or something like that.

Or ctrip.com, elong.com

There are plenty of options and many can arrange a pick up.

The only hotel actually at the airport is the Pullman. About 650rmb/night. If you search agoda.com for Huadu Baiyun airport you'll find some cheaper Chinese hotels for 120-300rmb/night within a couple of kilometers.

The BIG problem is getting a taxi to take you a short distance. They'll try to rip you off big style if you don't know what you're doing.

What time do you arrive? Last metro from the airport is 23.00.

I live 200rmb away. Pm me and I will send a driver to pick you up.

My couch is free.

But in the meantime, you need to quiz the school. There is a good bus service from GZ airport that goes to all the major hotels.

Hotwater:

Most of the airport express buses finish about 9.30ish. I'd guess there would be one to Phoenix as there is one to your neck of the woods. I'll check & see what I can find.

Ah yes. I checked up on the posting history, and the destination does indeed seem to be Pheonix city.  Very close to where I live.

This is very shoddy. Pheonix city is about 1.5 hours taxi from GZ airport. No more than 200 RMB. Why has the school not just sent you a "take me here" note for you to print out?

Why not just send a car?

Why do they want you to pay out 500 rmb plus for an airport hotel?

Is it a test?

I booked the pullman it was like 80 euros, its basically in the airport so its fine, at least when I arrive at the airport thats my journey done for the night!

I don't think it's a trick, I was told that the pick up could only be 8am-8pm and it just so happens the flight I want to take lands at 10pm, someone will come get me in the morning. I'll be staying on campus, initially anyway so it makes sense that I cant really arrive on my own there in the middle of the night, Id prefer to be shown where to go anyway! Im happy too that I can get a sleep and a shower before meeting anyone so I can make a good first impresh! Also I love hotels, so it's all good! :)

Glad you got sorted out. TBH I wouldn't have fancied having to get a taxi, to an unknown hotel, on my first trip out here.

Good luck in Phoenix City.

Watch the taxis, as 'hot' said. Demand meter is started, and 'fapiao' (receipt) is issued, when you'll pay!

Don't taxi 'wild cabs' without 'TAXI' sign on the car. If you'll take ride with usual car, ride will be pricey.

If I would be in your 'shoes', I would demand School organise ride, and pick-me-up at arrival to Airport. Chinese will rarely tell you to sort it out with ride from Airport.

I will also go to another city in few days. I told School rep. that after he'll send me Contract, I'll sign it, and then I'll go and buy train ticket. He replied: 'OK, I will pick you up, when you arrive to the city.

I posted comment few days ago as 'Chinese will always pick you up at your arrival….'

Pullman is nicest and u just walk from the airport. But pricey about 1000+ rmb depending on the night. Lost of others with pickup and in the 300 range but im not man enough to try.

My best advice would be to look at the distance of the school and take a taxi near and crash in hotel they reccomend thats closer and cheaper and safe.

I stayed in GZ overnight once, someone helped me find the shuttle bus at the airport, which was a few yuan, paid him, knew it was a scam, but I never would have found the bus by myself. I booked hotel on Agoda, bus let me off at sister hotel, apparently my hotel was full, it was a real dump,,, I didn't have to repay,,, think hotels swapped fee and scammed me,,, hotel room doors were all open kinda dump,   I stayed up all night and just made beer runs.. morning free shuttle bus took me to airport,,, I later emailed Agoda and they refunded me,,, so the night cost me a couple of Y for free bus and beer money. TIC   ah the memories, my story is actually longer, I left out the part with Koreans

shemma:

Yeah, I saw your post about hotels in GZ, just posted the same question because that was around 2 years ago. Sounds like a nightmare though, I'm terrified of ghosts and a hotel with a load of open doors would freak me right out! I just booked the pullman because at least it's right at the hotel and it looks fancy which will be nice after a long hauler! You have to treat yo'self sometimes! :)

coming back I stayed at airport over night, the stop over was less than 8 hours either way. It was easy to find a girl to keep me company.

Don't rely on ctrip. I have used them many times, last week was the last time. I booked 2, 4* hotel, or so I thought according to ctrip. One in Shenzhen for 2 nights, which should have been a no star hotel, the service was terrible [ none existant] no hello, no welcome no have a nice day, or enjoy your stay, the place and carpets filthy. Old style  grey black granite and the most foul musty odor throughout the whole building even in the elevator the food fit for the' pigs', I was total disgusted. The other 4* hotel, 4 nights beside the Pearl River, very disappointing. On arrival I was not acknowledged, again no hello, welcome, Upon ask the direction to my room without lifting her head for her desk she just pointed. I had 4 bags the concierge did not offer to help. I booked a river view room, but got a highway view. Upon complaining I was told I needed to make a one time payment of 200rmb. 2 minutes after I settled in my new room the phone rang telling me I need to pay another 400rmb again I was disgusted. Next day changing back to the first room the concierge again stood and watched as I struggled with the 4 bags. After the 4 day stay there was still no good morning, or enjoy your day or thank you's. Service was just none existent. Beautiful hotel, however service was terrible. ctrip need to get they're act together.

Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
