Q: Is all the ignorance just a ruse?
We all know China's government has grandiose plans of global supremacy, and tendencies towards deceptions rather than openness. So, I'm wondering if all the indoctrinated stupidity is part of the gov't's plan to deceive the West and lull us into a false illusion of strength, competitiveness and security. Expats throughout the country are flabberghasted how locals can't seem to implement proper educational reforms; how there's an appalling lack of creativity everywhere, and the country seems to be hopelessly incompetent. But maybe China is 'playing stupid'. The idiocy is real, since that's pretty hard to feign nationwide. But maybe the gov't already knows how to educate their people properly, and plans to "flash-educate" all of China in a short time, all the while lulling its political "enemies" into a false sense of confidence. Crazy? Or conceivable?

If you method of controlling your people is based on lies and deception, then teaching critical thinking doesn't seem like the smart move. !

Ah, but just stage an event where the 'wrongdoers' are seen to be punished and ousted from the government, and nobody will seek justice from the "interim" government, which is still controlled by the same people, of course. In the meantime, a 'free', critical thinking populace emerges, but with a strong sense of nationalist pride in their "new" government... Accuse foreign nations of corrupting the old gov't and hurting the Chinese people, and hey presto! A blitzkrieg to WWIII.

The ignorance is a way to manipulate people, many Chinese have sociopathic tendencies, they feel no empathy and enjoy manipulating other people to achieve their goals.
If a Chinese has nothing to earn/get from you he will simply ignore you or tell "ting bu dong", then one day he will call you as if both of you were best buddies forever because he needs you for some reason, then not call you anymore for a few months or a few years until he needs you again.
A sociopath who recently made it to the headlines is Elliot Rodgers the virgin murderer.
Inconceivable. China neither has the experience nor the tools to "flash educate" it's people. Like the saying goes, you can't turn a ship on a dime. It will take an extremely long time to re-educate a populace and the Chinese are very inefficient. They are not playing stupid. They simply have a mindset that suited their purposes when they were a closed off communist country. Does the leadership truly understand that they have to have a completely different mindset to compete with the world? I'm not so sure. I think they have been blinded by their economic success and growth. It will take much more than economic growth to win a military campaign. Especially when you are attacking rather than defending.
And don't for a minute believe the Western world is being hoodwinked. The political game of chess is slow and deliberate with many facets. In my opinion, they are backing themselves into a corner and wasting away all the trust they've built up with their neighbors in the last decade.

Definitely agree about the politics. Unless it's part of the ruse, which is a long shot. Chinese diplomacy makes the whole country come across as a bloated, greedy fat kid amongst adults, muscling its way through a crowd to get the candy off other people's plates. Always trying to get more, pushing a little further each time to see what it can get away with. The world is watching the petulant display in disbelief.
China is all about presentation so I wouldn't doubt it in the least.
Have you noticed it seems like Chinese want the long-term expats out of China? We aren't really welcome here are we?
Perhaps it is because we find out the truth and report back to the West. We are breaking their illusion and they don't like it one bit. All expats here know that China may have the money but it lacks EVERYTHING else for global supremacy.
The rest of the world will simply not accept them, their "culture" is just too backwards. Spitting, crapping, line cutting, horrible education, no animal rights, horrible human rights.. nah... going to need more than just a fancy PPT and speech.

Long term expats pose a problem, they have language skills and understanding of the country, and also some kind of social network.
I am sure someone must also have had the thought that there is a critical mass before expats influence starts to become too big.
Nope, by and large the smart and decent ones left or were killed off long ago; the ignorance is not a ruse.
The wider world is largely oblivious to China. Other than people who have vested interests; security networks, big business etc..., nobody much gives a stuff about China.
They can posture all they like and the world will still largely ignore them.
If other country's are aware of anything at all about China it's that the country is filthy and Chinese people make for very bad tourists.
Those of us who've lived here for a while know the place is laugh out loud dysfunctional and that the people are delusional.
The only ruse going down is the one about 'strength in the face of keeping the people firmly entrenched in 1923'.

"Chinese people make bad tourists", may be true in SE Asia but all I heard was compliments from people in EU. Also have met random independent Ch. travellers in different places, like one who was hitch-hiking around SE Asia in shipping trucks. I never knew about the bad side of Ch. until being close to the country, and found Ch. in home country were usually smart (the reason they got in) polite and respectful.
