Q: Is all rain in China acid rain?
I'm sure rain in China isn't the cleanest in the world, but how bad is it? Are there any places where "clean" rain exists? It rained in Beijing the other evening and I'm always conscious that I'm just showering in liquidised pollution.

I have heard some Chinese call it acid rain.
I have also heard that in some cases people have been burnt from the rain, im not sure if this is true though.
It snowed here a couple of weeks ago, and it was windy that night, the next morning the top layer of snow was slightly brown in colour, although this is the only time this has occurred all winter, or the only time i noticed anyway.
It is very possible and I am sure the authority will say that it is within the permitted levels of contamination. There is no more clean air whatsoever unless you go somewhere in Pakistan, in a village, which name I don't recall just now, where locals can reach ages up to 150, not occasionally but usually. The air and the water are this clean and healthy that gives this much life to live to the people.
Since I arrived in China, I have been suffering from any sort of flu for 5 times so far, now the one I am through just now, no headaches, no dizziness just a hard metal feeling like in my lungs, coughing and feeling of fatigue. Many coworkers and children at my school are in the same situation, wouldn't say exactly the same about their lungs, but sort of common symptoms.
It's been raining several times lately and I got the same feeling of a polluted air and rain.
I've wondered this myself from time to time. I've taken to constantly carry an umbrella on me, even on sunny days.

Background info:
Because of the carbon dioxide in air, normal rain should have PH=5.6. We call the rain with PH<5.6 acid rain.
The major cause of acid rain in China is sulfur dioxide emit from factories that burn coal. In western countries the major cause is nitrogen dioxide because they use oil as major fuel.
So basically, acid rain in China contains sulfuric acid H2SO4, while in west it's nitric acid. HNO3.
In the first map:
The yellow parts are where rain PH <5.6, in other words, those parts have acid rain.
The red parts in the map are where raindrops PH <4.5, which is considered critical and must be controlled.
The second one is similar. The darker color it is, the worse acid rain it occurs.
The black spots are important sulfuric emission sources.
To be honest, the rain worldwide is "acid rain". Ever since the Chernobyl incident back in 87 there are traces of toxins etc the world over.
