Q: Am I the only foreigner that spits like a Chinese person?

I just got back from a short trip to the West and while there I had to remember that I could no longer freely spit in the streets like I'm used to in China. Everyone always complains about the spitting here but I like having the freedom to hack up in the street if I feel like it and no one thinks anything of it. I've never seen any other foreigner take advantage of this.. Am I the only westerner who spits without shame?

no

you are clearly ashamed enough about spitting in public to post anonymously.

Could it be that most foreigners recognise how unsanitary the habit is in terms of public health, and have some degree of self-control, probably using a tissue to spit into if they need to and dispose of it properly?

I smell a rat... the kind of rat that claims to be something other than Chinese, to make it seem like all are equally bad. Perhaps even while getting a cool 5 Jiao note for it.

Try to make it seem like all are equally good instead.

During the last of our weekly meeting of all foreigners in China, we agreed that it was ok to spit in China, but not more than 5 times a day.

Dag Nabbit. I missed the meeting. Who brought cake last week?

Don't feel like you have to fit in while living in China, I have been here for 7 years and although I speak fluent putonghua I still don't spit randomly everywhere I go, I don't spit my bones during a dinner, I don't scream on phone, I don't stare at people or make rude comment about them in another language thinking that they can't understand, I don't jump queues and don't let anyone jumping in front of me, etc... I have not forgotten my values and beliefs to become a zombie feeding from money like most locals. I have changed many Chinese among my relatives, but none of them changed me.

Why do you want to spit on the ground anyway?  What's your reason for doing so?

How're the rest of your social skills?

From the West? , then you must be a Nigerian Prince, I have some money for you. Spitting in Nigeria is necessary, during the dry season it is the closest thing to rain that you have, those crops need your spit.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
