Today a student told me that her mother didn't like her puppy and so she put it in the freezer for like an hour then took it out. The puppy got sick (of course) and the mother wouldn't let anyone give it any medicine. It died soon after. Unbelievably, the student didn't think her mother was a heartless psychopath that should be locked up in an institution.
Anyone encountered similar stories?
that's why when the girl grows up she will be without feelings too..
She will do something more than her mother...
Stiggs:
Maybe karma will strike back and she'll do something more, but TO the mother.
Remember, it is her mother. She was raised by her and even possibly abused by her.We all should know that victims of a abuse or even just normal children will defend their parents.
Also, China as a whole does not have respect for life (human or other).
Lastly, I know I'm going to catch hell for this. But we as teachers should not judge the content of an assignment. We should remain objective at all times. I understand that is difficult for some especially with 'thinking' and culture of this country.
Scandinavian:
A good teacher is subjective at the right times. Puppy in freezer = wrong, no matter what.
Englteachted:
Scan, I understand. But you are wrong, this is China, it is acceptable here and the classroom is not the time or place for that discussion.
I have animal abuse stories:
Walk outside in China, and there will be a 99% chance of running into some form of extreme animal abuse.
TLDR: too many to list.
TLDR2: china
I have been in China for so long that it doesn't even surprise me anymore when I hear such stories.
In this country owners see their pets as disposable objects, husbands see their wives as belonging to them meaning they can beat them if they want and should not be blamed for it, parents see their children as a mean to financially secure their old days and if you think that Chinese parents love their children more than anything and that this is the reason why they pressure them so much then you are horribly mistaken.
Well, I will say this... if I was reincarnated as an animal and I had to choose between being born in Antarctica and China...
Which one do you think I would survive longer in?
SwedKiwi1:
Depends on which part of China - you might do ok in Inner Mongolia
I saw a kid playing with a bird tied to a string while I was in Chengdu. He would toss it in the air and it would try to fly then fall once the string got tight. The kid was laughing and the parents were inside the shop selling fruit. I didn't think that I should intervene because they wouldn't understand why I was upset and it might draw the wrong attention to me. I told a lady friend of mine who is an animal rights activist and she was pissed at me for not getting involved. What would you have done? I don't even speak chinese.
Eorthisio:
Tie a rope around the parent's necks then toss them around, they will understand why you are angry. The kid... well he is a kid, not his fault if his parents are unworthy to be so.
Stiggs:
You probably did the right thing staying out of it, especially if you don't speak Chinese.
take a walk around any rural 'wet market'. 6 mangy cats in a cage that would hold 1. Snakes piled all up and together in cages. Snakes being gutted alive. Dogs smushed into small cages. Fish gutted alive flopping around on the cutting board waiting for the cleaver to fall. Different birds all crammed in small cages or at least more than cage is designed to hold. All this in the heat with nary a drop of water for any of them. 'Wet Markets' will show u the simple truth: animals are produce designed for consumption and profit-making. Sad but true.
I wish I had the - whatever it takes- to be a Vegan.
yesterday witnessed a lady SLAUGHTERING a fish with a bang of hammer on its head...
I was asked by my wife to kill crayfishes. Asking this to me, who's a vegetarian tree-hugging hippie, who did not even touch the crayfishes ! The suggested method was to behead them. I boiled water, and drop the poor things into the water, I hope it was an instant death for them. At least, it sterilized them...
The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated. - Mahatma Ghandi
Chinese don't give a shit about other people, hoping they care about animals is naive.
