Q: Another earthquake - Yunnan province. Have you experienced any in China?
News of another earthquake has been reported, this time in Yunnan province.
Up to 175 people are recorded killed - i can only hope its remote location does not hamper rescue work.
One of my students last semester described how her family was affected in another location.

No, I have never experienced earthquake anywhere. I was in LA in 1989, left USA by the end of September. Earth shaked bad 20 days later.
Tomorrow, I'm heading to PSB for RPermit. Then, holidays in Yunnan. Kunming and Dali for two weeks.
Chinese don't plan. We always plan, so I'll stick to my plan, and use buses if trains are no go.

No but I saw some pretty impressive rockslides from the 2008 quake on QingShang (or was it ChingChong) oh wait I think it is QingCheng mountain, whatever the holy mountain is 1 hour outside of Chengdu.
I didn't but some women I knew felt them.
I read it was a 6.3 and 367 people were killed, 1300 injured and 12,000 homes destroyed.

Yup, in Sichuan last year. I got woken up to a shaking bed, and not in a good way! I was probably the least scared of all the people around me. Probably because I didn't have 2008 imprinted in my mind, and I'm not the panicky type anyway. I heard grown men ran onto the street in their underwear, locking themselves out of the house.
Nope. As I am mainly down here in Guangdong, nothing to report. There was a minor quake two years ago, but in Zhuhai it was mainly felt by attention sluts, whereas people north of Shenzhen would have been more likely to have felt it.
Just light ones, nothing massive but it seems all the massive Earthquakes are in Sichuan around to the Yunnan area...
This Summer has had a lot of disasters. Lots of plane crashes (well Europe/Asia), exploding factories/pipelines, natural disasters, terrorists attacks... et al in China or Asia.
Strange how 12 000 were destroyed from a 6.3... just sounds like shabby construction to me...

The Chinese call it tofu construction, or something similar. It means the poorly constructed buildings that fall down were made of tofu.
I (barely) felt a minor quake once, wouldn't want to be living in an earthquake prone area here. I would hate to be in any type of tall concrete building in an earthquake.
I did feel the aftershock minor earthquake once, in the middle of a class. My students all denied having felt it (it was slight, and they were really nervous about upcoming presentations). I made the kids sitting under the projector move, and continued the class.
That is about as close as I want to come to an earthquake in China.
I've never experienced an earthquake anywhere, not in China either. Nothing up in Beijing really.
It looks like the efforts by the governement in getting help to people this time was very well organized

I did do a facepalm the day after the quake as CCTV News had a headline saying "Roads to quake area jammed by rescue vehicles", one can only imagine all honking and no rescuing.
I was in Tianjin a while back and there was a minor earthquake. I thought I had dropped my wallet at first.
Another 5.0 magnitude earthquake hits Yunnan this morning in the same area as two weeks ago.
No reports on Internet, yet! I saw it on CC teli at 9:30am.
