Q: Another popular song: "Country Roads"? Why? Why? WHY?

I hated it the first time I heard John Denver spew this pap of a song over AM radio years ago.  And I've hated it since.  BUT... the Chinese LOVE this song!  (In an earlier post, I mentioned I play music and I am perplexed by Chinese preferences of old American pop music.)

Why is "Country Roads" requested at EVERY gig I play?  By the event manager, the corporate sponsor, or some influential attendee at the show?  Country Roads???????  Why?  What is the reason?  How did such a crap song become endemically popular in China, even today???  Somebody. Please. Please explain.

Country roads is probably more popular than your songs. Don't be quick to judge others judge yourself first and see where you have the problems. Like the bible says don't be jealous of another man's success!

If you've tried to sit in a tent together with 10000 drunk Germans, all holding 1 liter glasses of good beer, all singing Country Roads, then you will never be able to dislike this song.
