Seems a mess these days. Almost as bad as Iraq
CharlieB:
So Ironman: multiple religion/culture based attacks on civilians using butcher knives/swords and improvised explosive devices.
I see many similarities with one significant difference. In Iraq it is often done with impunity, the local government might well condone it. While in China the attackers are usually either killed or put to death. With this in mind, it takes a lot of fury and hate to hack away at a crowd of people until you are shot and killed.
Biggest attack in years kills 31 in China's troubled Xinjiang

That's fucking sad... They should hang the terrorists over the same place like Iran did in 2005 and till now no blast has been reported there.
There is an article on MSN home page, but just for the hell of it tried doing some additional research on The Uighurs and it seems the have a lock on much of the links I tried checking into.
Whats a cross country vehicle? Ive never heard that term before. Like an SUV ? A landrover or something? Strange how the articles keep using that term.
CharlieB:
Maybe a recreational vehicle (RV) like used for camping? I dunno
yeah I just saw that, very sad news. I'm also seeing more police drive around.
Just asked my wife if she heard of this. She replied, "No and stop saying bad things about China!"
Do any of you get this response?
JanShanghai:
I think it's your wife. My coworkers speak openly to me about China, her gifts and shortcomings, equally.
Maybe because I only speak of her gifts openly, and keep my negative thoughts to myself lol
Robk:
Brainwashed Chinese... hard to dismantle that clamp...
Have to show them and take them out of China until the magic CCP dust wears off.
Lord_hanson:
my wife knew about it. She also does not mind me criticising china. I don't do it often in front of her though, i feel that I would not like it if someone was constantly saying negative things about my home country.
overseas_expat:
My wife knew about it and repeated she doesn't want to go to Xinjiang.
However, my wife doesn't mind me criticizing China, because she knows that if my country does something stupid or boneheaded, I will criticize my country in a New York minute.
my wife said, just like Japan.
She recently saw an old thing about the Sarin gas attack in Japan, many years ago.
How do they avoid killing innocents I wonder?
mike695ca:
The attack happened in a large market for Han chinese. No shop owners where of the muslim variety and few shoppers. Loaction location location
rasklnik:
Yeah...on one hand I hate the powers that be...on the other hand killing poor merchants isn't going to help anything...
Well,
Seems like foreigners are safe. They just REALLY don't like Han Chinese.
Sad though... I am sure the people getting caught in these attacks are just trying to live and make a buck. They should be going after the officials or the people who actually pissed them off. Leave the innocents out of it.
oh dear, this will lead to move internet censorship.
This is really sad. I don't know what to say, except, "Kill them all!"
"Them" being the terrorists, obviously.
The locals here in Xinjiang believe that Uyghir Muslims are being influenced by fundamentalists from across the borders in Afghanistan, Pakistan and further west to the Middle East. Wide spread exposure to the internet has been the facilitator of this. More women cover up now and there's less tolerance of frivolity.
Bombs replacing knives is a step into real madness and personal safety becomes hit and miss.
I was in Urumqi just last week and definitely noticed increased numbers of police, soldiers and tanks.
The thing is, how do they prevent an episode such as today's? I can't see how they can.
This is a real step up.
ScotsAlan:
You take care dude. I was thinking of you today when I saw the news.
Scandinavian:
I thought it was that the locals there go across the border to learn. Remember you have two sets of locals in Xinjiang.
But China will most likely be deploying "peace keeping" troops to Afghanistan soonish for this particular reason.
mike695ca:
Glad to hear you and you family is OK. Play it safe for a while man, this doesnt look like its going to calm down anytime soon. If you ever decide a change of scenery is the best choice let us know. Id be happy to help you make a change on the fly.
royceH:
Thanks fellas. The thing is, I've just signed a new 12 mth contract and other than death and carnage all about, things are good.
The fruit out here is the best. But I don't eat much fruit...not too complimentary to cold beer.
I feel sad. I feel sad for the innocent victims and their families. My condolences to the innocents involved.
Why people have to do such things is beyond me.
I also feel sad because so many people seem to have become de-sensitized to these things.
