Sign up with Google Sign up with FacebookQ: Any advice on getting a satellite dish?
Its my understanding I could either do it....
the legitimate way by presenting my passport and paying for monthly service
or
go under the table way with a one-time hook up fee and maybe a reoccuring annual fee.
Which is better; Phillipine or Hong Kong channels?
Are there other English channel service providers I don't know about?
How much should it cost? How would I know if I'm getting ripped off?
Any information or shared experiences are welcome, thanks.

I got me a satellite dish about 16 months ago. I paid 1600 Rmb for the whole thing, dish, receiver, Internet connection, installation, etc. it is a fix one, I can get only one satellite, or 37 different channels. From USA I get HBO, Cinemax, Discovery, National Geographic, CNN, CNBC, ESPN, etc, I also get one channel each from France, Japan, Korea, Cuba,Australia, BBC, a couple of finnancial channels, and the rest are Chinese, some with English subtitles.
Maybe I was naive, or not spoeaking enough Mandarin I did not understand, but about 6 months after using it I stopped receiving the signal. I called the fellow that sold it to me and he came, told me the encription was changed, charged me 100 yuan, and I was receiving a signal again.
He also said to me I can, if I wnat, install like a "T" on center of dish, and place two extra diapoles and receive two extra satellites. I did not see any reason to go thru the extra expense, I am satisfied with what I have now.

That sounds like a pretty sweet set up. I hope I can find something like that here in Suzhou, but with sports. Thanks for the tip, now I know not to buy into anyone charging an annual renewal fee.
I might as well link these both to each other.
