Q: Any else annoyed at foreigners walking in public, beer bottle in hand?
I live in Shenzhen and I see this all the time, and it really annoys me. They move in small packs of 3-10, each holding their big green beer bottles, talking loudly and sometimes getting drunk in the middle of the afternoon in plain sight downtown.
No, I am not annoyed. I am one of these guys. Give it a try.
So, in other words they are blending in better than you are?
Never witnessed this phenomenon before...just sounds like young punks following the old adage of "when in Rome..."

Just do as you please as long as you don't interfere with my own do as I please situation.
i understand why you would be annoyed . but direct your anger in the right direction. at ignorant locals who think 1 foreign is the exact same as all foreigners

Right again Crimo! Anyone walking around with a bottle of alcohol in their hand is tacky. I think the only exception might be a backyard bbq, a county fair, or maybe an amusement park provided the holder of that bottle is sober and civil towards others.
Is this in a park? Based on Chinese drivers I try not to be drunk near cars...

I can't drink in public at home, so when I'm walking if I get thirsty I have a beer, better for me than pop and it's just as cheap. It's allowed to do so here, which is as it should be. I've never been drunk in China and I see nothing wrong with a bunch of guys out having a good time.
but.. keep in mind that at the moment chinese respect foreigners than any other country in the world... but i also believe that as the number of foreigners increase... so will the no. of foreign punks... then chinese will start looking down at foreigners as a whole...

Technically a 'foreigner' is anyone from a country other than China, so your statement is meaningless, since all these other countries in the world are full of 'foreigners'. You mean Chinese respect us because we aren't from Africa, South America, or the Middle East.
In other words, as a developing country, Chinese hate people from all other developing countries and respect their former imperial masters?

It is an adventure for many young men to find themselves in the Orient. They can engage in certain behavior that may not be allowed where they hail from. They are just having a fun time and building up some memories and bar tales. Most of the time this is pretty harmless. I think most locals are wise enough to see that it is no real big deal.
Hopefully we will all watch out for each other and keep things from getting out of hand.
In Guangdong manys a local will pass the day sitting outside shops and supermarkets with beer and peanuts or sunflower seeds just chillin'.
Point being, as long as you are not acting the maggot, no problemo here.
Since in my home country you can't walk around with beers in public this is something I thought was amazing when I first came to China and certainly did it a few times and have seen others doing it.
I say no harm no foul. As long as they aren't causing a big scene and making problems then who cares. Let them have their fun.
I've never seen this nor have I done it, (not in China at least), perhaps because there aren't that many weigouren in Nanning and those there are, are well dispersed. I go weeks without seeing any other weigouren. Would it annoy me if I saw it? No, if they were absolutely wasted I would get embarrassed for them (yeah I know, that's stupid but I've always felt like that and cannot stop it) so I would feel uncomfortable, but not enough to do anything.
Life can be enough hassle without some gobby expat telling you your embarrasing him.
I'll "mirror" an answer. I never saw drunk expats, because I rarely saw foreigners. I did many times see drunk Chinese men, who had passed out and barfed in restaurants, and just left to sleep it off. Only the barf bothered me, not the drunk Chinese.
Yes,once I saw three American guys holding their big green beer bottles in the street, talking loudly and it seems they were kinda drunk. I was a little bit scared cause they were giants LOL
