Q: Any good gym chains in China?

I was wondering if there are any big gym chains with good reputation in China. I have been to a small gym around my area but the facilities were not too good.

My gym is pretty good, and I would recommend them to anyone...just depends on your budget. I don't know if they are in your city, but I'm sure they are a chain.  Their english name is E-come Fitness. Their Chinese name is yi kang jian shen.  Characters are 易康健身.

Before joining up, I also went to a small local gym.  It was ok, but machines were in a state of disrepair, and you never knew if the hot water would be working in the showers that day.  Also, there was a fire one time.  My first time seeing Chinese firefighters in action...neat, and also worrisome

Would you mind telling me how much you are paying for that membership, and from your experience what the average cost for a gym member ship is?  My Chinese girlfriend also wants to join a gym with me, and I am beginning to research the cost,  I know it is damn expensive since exercise is considered a western luxury here.

Probably not the best gym I heard of was the gym called california gym but the only one of those I've seen here in China was in a shopping mall. Not really a good idea if you ask me! And they definitely didn't have a swimming pool inside the gym either. I don't get why they would put a gym inside a shopping mall without any showers.

Won't the people be embarrassed after they come out of that place sweaty and stinky?

Considering at the mall fitness clubs I've seen business men still wearing their dress shirt tucked in and still wearing a tie while on the treadmill, I would say no.

My gym is on the top floor of a brand new shopping mall.  It has showers.  I can take an elevator directly from the parking garage to their front door.  A little weird at first, but the location works.

local gyms with weights and running machines are about 800 rmb a year in jinan but somewhat dirty

nice gyms clean with indoor track that are chain operations run about 2500 a year and 1500 more for the heated pool.

if your in beijing the diplomatic quarters has nice western standard gym with pool for 7000 a year.
