Q: Any good scenic spots in China that aren't overpriced?

We all know that toursity scenic spots across the country are pretty dear. I paid something like 300 RMB to climb a mountain last summer, and after a trip to Korea where everything was pretty much free admission I'm a bit dissapointed about this aspect of China life. Anyway, there's an awful lot I still wanna see, though am just curious as to whether there are any scenic spots in the country that aren't so overpriced?

Try Linfen.

Beautiful scenery and not on the expensive side.

I liked the Li river ride and Yangshou was OK. I rented a motorcycle (300) and drove around the country for 3 days. There are lots of mountains, find a free one. One thing I have noticed about stairs in mountains etc, is they would never meet any safety codes in North America. Often poorly built, having no railings and if they do have railing, then too low. I'm always afraid I'll get to the top and run into a cobra.

The only place I want to see in China is Hunan Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.

I read but don't know how that you can take a freighter down the river to Gz and it's cheaper than the bus.

Scandinavian:

Zhangjiajie is an impressive place. We spent 3 days there, walking up and down the stairs, in one long queue together with the thousands of others there. The forest below the mountains does seem to have a bit of tranquility to it. Walking around works OK, taking busses around the park, using cable cars/lifts adds a lot of waiting to the experience.

It is a place to go during low season, and not on the warmest of days.

If going to Zhangjiajie don't forget to visit the Huanglong cave, in my book better than the mountains.
