Q: Any hacks for driving a motorcycle ?
I really miss my GSXR back home. and no one so far could help finding a solution for driving a motorcycle here in guangzhou. I often see chinese & foreigners driving some beat up Kawasaki or something at night. and one of em told me once if your driving after 10 pm the police will not stop you or say a thing.
But im just not sure about that if its true or not. and i dont want to buy a gixxer here and have it confiscated or even worse deportation or jail for me.
Any of you guys have an idea about this situation ? the after 10pm thing ?

Motorbikes are banned in Guangzhou, as you must know. I'd love one here but won't take the risk.
I have met Chinese guys riding big bikes downtown but only at night. They also admit to taking a big risk as if they get stopped the bikes get confiscated. So yes, less chance at night but still a risk. Your choice mate.
If you want a "hack" (I assume you mean a way to ride) then move to Panyu. Even Luoxi Xincheng is classed as Panyu so you can ride a bike there. Though if you don't have a license then there's another risk of your bike getting confiscated if you're stopped.

If you park a motorbike on the street in GZ the police will just take it. Its not just riding it that is the issue, it's also where to keep it.

I checked this out some time ago so circumstances may have changed.
The police will confiscate the bike and may detain you for up to seven days at their disgression. For a foreigner, they may consider the paperwork to be too much trouble but should you be detained, you will be formally charged and convicted. A conviction, depending upon whether you are licensed, have insurance, registration ect can mean an early exit from China. Hardly worth the risk in my opinion.

Maybe its my age but what is all this shit with looking for a "hack"? Why not just say, in plain English, that he's looking for a way to break the law?

I've heard of 7-14 days jail is the order of the day for flying without a licence. I can't imagine 2 weeks in a Guangzhou jail would be too much fun.

One may assume that you are correct that a local prison won't be much fun. Cubba (Chinese Bubba) will enjoy a little fresh white meat for a change. And one might also assume that once a foreigner has been to prison in china, the authorities probably don't want them back in the oral english class next Monday morning and will suggest an alternative country forthwith.

Don't take this the wrong way fella. I used to marshal the IOM TT races. I am not a biker myself. I have an ebike. It does 15 mph. But I rarely take it above 5.
Not because I can't ride it. It's because no body can drive here.
If you want to ride a supersports bike in a city where 50% of drivers can't drive, and the other 50% are driving while checking their wechat status... wow. Death wish.
Buy an ebike.
But it needs to have pedals. The moped ones are banned in GZ.

1000cc gixxer. and no its not a death wish. i only wanna drive after midnight. and go to macau / HK on it. on the upside i used to drive in Lebanon, if u google that u will find that its the most horrid driving experience anyone can have. If u can drive in lebanon u can drive anywhere, even here in china.
After seeing how people drive in both of these countries,i can say for sure driving in china is safer ....
I lived in Nansha district for 2 years, and drove an unlicensed gas powered motorcycle for 1 1/2 years without ANT TROUBLE from the police. i went thru numerous checkpoints, and they would just wave me on thru. The only big problem is getting gas from the gas stations. after the terrorist activity using gas, the govt decided to strictly monitor the use of gas. i had my school make up a letter stating that im a foriegner teacher and to please give me gas.

Nansha is very different to GZ itself. As I said above, even Louxi Xincheng in northern Panyu is okay for motorbikes. As soon as you cross the bridge into Haizhu they are banned and do get confiscated.
