Q: Any info on how new visa deal w/US & China will affect us?

Actually I believe that many schools will push for their teachers to sign with a 3rd party (agency) such as Foreign HR to get business Visas. This actually started about 3-4 years ago (from my account possibly earlier). Signing teachers through a 3rd party (usually the agency is set up outside of mainland China) avoids all requirements.
Many Foreigners who were working under tourist or student visas in Beijing simply got business visas through Foreign HR.
This will ensure salaries stay low and foreigners will get a poorer reputation.

I can tell you that many schools who can't process working visas already go through visa agencies to get their FT in, it started two years ago when the governement began to enforce visa rules for obvious illegal workers (those on tourist or business visas), most agencies charge around 5000 once for a working visa, better deal than paying the fine (up to 20000) if the school is not well connected.
Who is "us"?
I can only answer how it will affect me....and that is, not in the slightest. The length of validity of my residence permit is tied to the length of validity of my Foreign Expert's License, which thus far has only been good for a year at a time.
I was asked for Non-criminal record certificate in Henan, before I'll get WPermit and ILetter with EU passport.
Non-crim. certificate use to be requirement for US passport holders only.

I guess they finally figured out that not all Waiguoren = Americans, and that they need to consider everybody else too in order to close the loopholes.

I understood as some kind of 'reciprocity' between US and China. I'm not sure, what other reasons would be US teachers must have it, and others not.
I wonder, if that's only Henan's requirement or whole China. My Uni just get 'laowai hire authorization', and I'm their 1st FT.
I applied for WP in Fujian few months ago, and I wasn't required to get Non-crim cert.

I've been here for 5 years, and only with my most recent signing did I need to get that. The other teachers, who were at the school and were re-signing, didn't need to get theirs.
And, it's a nation-wide thing (in theory) for ALL NEW applications.

I don't get the logic of that requirement. If one is in China more than 5 years, Criminal record should be clean (for the last 5 years).

I'm talking about FT working LEGALLY in China on Z-visas/residence permits under one-year contracts with schools legally authorized to hire foreign teachers. Working in China under a Business visa is illegal and I won't do it, as well as tourist visas. The new agreement is ten years for tourist and business people, up to five years for students. Does anyone have any idea on whether or not these new agreements will have any effect on our visas/residence permits? I.e.: can we sign a longer contract, get a longer residence permit, or will the visa/residence permit become two separate documents, and we only need to renew our residence permit each year?

Shining Brow, Obama and Xi JinPing at the APEC meeting agreed to extend visas to each other's people immediately. Tourists and businesspeople will now get a 10-year multiple entry visa and students will receive a student visa up to 5 years (depending on their course of study). This is reciprocal between the two countries, and has already been implemented (John Kerry made a big show of handing out the first 12 ten-year visas at the Beijing Embassy last week).
don't think so.. they are talking about the business visa ,tourist visa only for 10 years. not the working one.
