Since becoming a father a couple of years ago i've had to make huge changes, most of all I can't go out and get messed up whenever I feel like it, and as much as this is a good thing in many ways, it has still left me with a certain void when i'm looking for a howling outlet and means to let my gradually receding hair down, and for this reason i've been thinking it might be time to make use of one of my other talents besides drinking, and that is playing the sax. And i'm not sure exactly where to start. All I can think of is putting small ads up for other musicians to hook up with in the local music shops. Any suggestion?
Sax. Cool. Tenor?
Where do you live? Are there any live music venues in your town?
What kind of music are you into?
I gig frequently in my burg. Guitar. Electric. (I want to do more acoustic stuff: jazz, folk, pop, Brazilian, boleros, that kind of stuff, but don't have the time.)
Pay gigs are usually corporate events or the occasional wedding or shopping mall grand opening. They tend to drag on, but the money's good.
Fun gigs are with other cats in pubs and larger clubs with stages and sound systems.
PM me for some pointers.
And rock on, bro!

Tenor, yeh, jazz, funk, blues, soul, latin rythms, south african, calypso, real big into Sonny Rollins at the mo', just wish I could play like him, but i'm good enough to gig, just not sure how to get on that train, Nanning is hardly a cosmopolitan city.
Red_Fox:
Nice. Sonny Rollins. Saw him in concert a while back when I lived in Barcelona. Love his rendition of "Saint Thomas". What's your forte? Improv or reading charts?
mArtiAn:
I can't read music but I have a good ear. I'm all about improvisation. Can't even learn a tune through before I get bored. Very little discipline. Been playing for years though.
I thought Sonny Rollins was dead. He is, isn't he? Just watching him a minute ago backing Leonard Cohen (yeh, don't ask why I was watching that) and he almost made old Lenny look like he was breathing.
Open mic night anywhere?
I play an electric and sing in a smaller venue. As you can imagine, it's a lot of fun.
Red_Fox:
Definitely open mike. If there aren't any, create one. Pick a music-friendly venue: small pub, cafe, English corner, whatever.
mArtiAn:
Starting an open mic of my own is an idea, but then there's the problem of musical tastes. I don't get the impression this town is overflowing with Maceo Parker enthusiasts, and i'm f**king NOT playing 'Go Home' or any other f**king thing by Kenny (4th floor, women's lingerie, mind the doors please) G.
