Q: Any New Year's Eve activity going on in your town? If so, are you going?

If you are, good for you!

If you're not, why not?

Nothing happening in my town.  Perhaps more snow will fall..... Actually, not nothing.  One of my classes has invited me to sing 'Let It Be' with them in their little party.  So I will.

What will you be doing tomorrow night, around midnight?

Going to a New Years eve party tonight with a big crowd of expats, girlfriends , wives and there will be other Chinese there too. Should be a good night, beer, snacks, and good friends. Can't think of a better way to celebrate than that.

yea, there's an expat party at a locally owned expat bar tonight.  i won't be going though.  i've opted to bring in the new year with my girlfriend and a close group of friends i have made here.  more relaxing and meaningful to me.

i'm meeting a friend for dinner then going on to a bar that has a 60RMB open bar special, then onto town to one of the many expat bars to see the new year in in style. I love Kunming.

Last year in Hebei, there was nothing to do, restaurants/bars were closed. The only thing left to do was to get drunk tattoos!

Happy new year all!

Hey Rin, I'm going to Kunming for a short holiday in late Jan..can you suggest a good place to go for a few beers?  I'd like to show my wife something that approaches what a bar should be. Where ppl are speaking English.  There's nothing of the sort where we live in Xinjiang.

Rin:

Moondog! On any given night there's at most 5 Chinese in the bar. It's a real bar with bar stools and a foot rail! The owners are Dutch and German and the friendliest people you could ever meet! Your wife may feel a bit out of place though!

Send me a message when you arrive, I'll come out with you!

Just relax.  We just got back from our Xmas holiday, and were both fighting colds, so getting drunk is not on our list of things to do.  A nice dinner, bring the blankets out to wrap up on the sofa, pour some Baileys in the coffee and relax.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
