Considering China's 5000 year history includes 2000+ years of Imperial rule, and over 200 years rule by the Manchu, I was curious if this is recognised as a significant event.
They usually don't recognize the last Chinese Emperor in the way you think. In any society that had emperors or kings they don't celebrate them that much. Remember a lot of kings had enemies and even inside their own kingdom people use to try to poison them. They made a movie about the last emperor which was the little baby and I found out that the baby had gotten kidnapped by the japanese. That is sad! So no they don't!
I can see the logic behind 'celebrating' it... finally rid of that oppressive monarchy system and all that came with it.
Perhaps they just don't like losers??
it is significant event for chinese, but for one hundred years ago.
the last china emperot was not kidnipple by japan, strictly, he was be cheated by japan and went with them. he was a young man and believe japanese would help him take back his throne.
