Yes there is.

It is very unlikely that they work though.

Note. I do not mean to ridicule you, I know that hearing loss and hearing related problems can have severe impact on life quality. I would however very much like to ridicule TCM.

My spouse has tinnitus and tried acupuncture, combined with some Chinese herbal concoctions. After about three months there was a significant reduction in the 'noise' but was also told that it might never go away completely.  Was also told by western ear doctor that there was not really any cure for tinnitus however, sometimes it goes away on its own, but that occurs very seldom.

Indeed Mr CortoMaltese, tinnitus blows goats. As I have suffered this for a long time and sought treatment, I discovered a couple of things.

Treatment depends upon the reason you have it. There is a whole bunch of reasons for experiencing tinnitus from disease, medical issue, earwax, drugs and several others including prolonged exposure to loud noise. (Back in my halcyon days I played in some punk bands - we rehearsed inside a shipping container with bare metal walls...possible reason?) Some may have a temporary experience of it. For example; if you occasionally go to a concert.

Go to a real doctor (ie: Hong Kong) if it is causing you undue stress. I've tried lots of herbal and holistic remedies. They are bullshit.

Long-Term Effect of Acupuncture for Treatment of Tinnitus: A Randomized, Patient- and Assessor-Blind, Sham-Acupuncture-Controlled, Pilot Trial. Journal of Alternative & Complementary Medicine. Jul2012, Vol. 18 Issue 7, p693-699.

" Results: A significant interaction between time and group in VAS ( p=0.017) was evident, but not in THI, PTA, and SD scores. THI showed significant improvement at the end of treatment and 3 months after, compared to baseline, in real acupuncture ( p=0.004). In SD, a significant long-term effect of real acupuncture was observed until 3 months after ( p=0.011). However, the effect of real acupuncture in PTA was not maintained until 3 months after the end of treatment. No significant difference in the sham-acupuncture treatment group was evident. No statistical difference in any outcome was observed between real and sham acupuncture. Only in the mean percent change of VAS, real acupuncture showed statistical significance, compared with sham-acupuncture from baseline to 3 months after ( p=0.019). Conclusions: Through evaluation of subjective (THI and VAS) and objective outcomes (PTA and SD), this study demonstrates the long-term effect of real acupuncture." (copied from abstract)

The effects of acupuncture on the inner ear originated tinnitus. Journal of Research in Medical Sciences. Sep2011, Vol. 16 Issue 9, p1217-1223.

"After the 5th and 10th sessions of treatment, the mean of tinnitus severity index reduced significantly only in the case group (p = 0.002, and p = 0.001, respectively). In addition, the quality of life in the case group also improved after the treatment. Moreover, the mean of tinnitus loudness also reduced significantly only in the case group after 5 and10 sessions of treatment (p = 0.001, and p < 0.001, respectively)."(copied from Abstract)

Acupuncture in an Outpatient Clinic in China: A Comparison With the Use of Acupuncture in North America. Southern Medical Journal. Aug2001, Vol. 94 Issue 8, p813-81

Background. The National Institutes of Health Consensus Panel on Acupuncture has listed as a priority the study comparing indications and patterns of use of acupuncture in different countries. Methods. I visited an outpatient acupuncture clinic in China and reviewed the clinical files. A MEDLINE search was done to compare the use of acupuncture in North America and China. Results. The most common disorder treated in the clinic was musculoskeletal pain. Less common indications included stroke rehabilitation, Bell's palsy, cholelithiasis, tinnitus, insomnia, migraine, and visceral pain. In North America, acupuncture is primarily for pain relief. Other uses include stroke rehabilitation, various emetic problems, migraine, and various addictions. Conclusions. Acupuncture is most frequently used in China and North America for pain relief. Other common indications include peripheral nerve palsy, peripheral nerve neuralgia, stroke rehabilitation, psychoemotional disorders, migraine, visceral pain, emesis, asthma, and tinnitus. Acupuncture for cholelithiasis in China but not in the United States suggests a novel use of this modality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Just a couple that may provide some reassurance that getting acupuncture for tinnitus may not be a complete waste of time...

(however, once again I will argue that these research projects have a major flaw in them... using western medicine diagnostics, yet TCM protocols... it just doesn't work! Same as using TCM diagnostics, and western treatments. It's not an A=A situation!!!)

I had tinnitus for many years.... I tried many things western/eastern... none of these worked... then a few years back, I moved into a new house that had a small but very useful sauna (steam room)... I started to use it after I had been to the gym and after approx 3 weeks of this, I found that the ringing in my ears had lessened (gone quieter). After a few months the ringing had completely gone.... I went to the doctors later for my normal check up and he said it could be because the heat over time stripped/melted the ear of both external wax (which can sit on the outside of the ear drum and is very hard to remove) and internal wax substance (tympan..something-somthing).... anyway... this is the only explanation I can think of which may have cured me... give it a try... you never know..!

I will definitely try this, thank you. Roughly, how many years did you had tinnitus and how long were the sauna sessions? and what kind of noise was the tinnitus (e.g. buzzing, high pitched noise, etc)?

Ilikedumplings:

I had it for approx 8-10 years.... I would spend 40 mins in the sauna (sometimes a little longer when you forget about the time)..

The noise I had was a constant high pitch, towards the end it turned into a wooshing type sound.. but now... all gone :)

Good luck.
