Q: Any way at all to extend my Residence Permit to change jobs?

I have a similar question on another thread.

I am working for an agency which sends teachers to different schools. Been with this agency for two years.

The school I was assigned to expected me to work for them until the end of June. Problem is that my Residence Permit expires June 14th. So they changed my classes around to do this. So my last day there is June 13th. I have been hired to work at another school in another city in the same province.

The agency is not willing to extend the Residence Permit one month to take care of this paperwork.

Today I got the Cancellation of Work Permit and Release Letter from the college stamped and everything. I am in a hurry to get the paperwork to the other city to start the work permit cancellation.

Now this afternoon the college told me that the paperwork I signed has to be approved by supervisors who can turn it down which means I am screwed basically. The agency won’t go through the process of cancelling the Work Permit without their approval. So another sleepless night worrying about this. Hopefully, I can sign a form stating that I will continue my work with the college until June 13th.

I have read online that it MIGHT be possible to get a 30 day extension, something called a Humanitarian Visa to be able to change my employer and finish the paperwork. I have read two or three articles concerning this. If not, then I can get an L Visa for thirty days and then go home. Has anyone heard of this?

My new employer is worried that I won’t get everything done because of this. If I only had two more weeks it would be all good. Two weeks.

My agency is screwing me and I don’t know why.  I have not had a negative relationship with them and I am just trying to get another job with another school. This is upsetting because of the fact that I am married to a citizen and have a life here.

I can’t imagine this would be difficult to do and all parties are screwing me on this and don’t know what to do.

Help or advice appreciated.

If you have the letter of release I don't know what else the new school would need to get moving on your new RP, it really sounds to me like someone is blowing smoke up your arse because they're worried you'll bail on them before your last day.

At this point you should maybe give SAFEA a call, this sort of thing is supposed to be what they're there for.

Good luck mate, hope it works out.
