Q: anybody get real enthused about the Rio Olympics 2016?

Olympic Bloopers

 Sports commentators show their intelligence

> 1. Weightlifting commentator: "This is Gregoriava from Bulgaria . I
> saw her snatch this morning during her warm up and it was amazing."

> 2. Dressage commentator: "This is really a lovely horse and I speak
> from personal experience since I once mounted her mother."

> 3. Paul Hamm, Gymnast: "I owe a lot to my parents, especially my
> mother and father."

> 4. Boxing Analyst: "Sure there have been injuries, and even some
> deaths in boxing, but none of them really that serious."

> 5. Softball announcer: "If history repeats itself, I should think we
> can expect the same thing again."

> 6. Basketball analyst: "He dribbles a lot and the opposition doesn't
> like it. In fact you can see it all over their faces.

> 7. At the rowing medal ceremony: "Ah, isn't that nice, the wife of
> the IOC president is hugging the cox of the British crew."

> 8. Soccer commentator: "Julian Dicks is everywhere. It's like
> they've got eleven Dicks on the field."

> 9. Tennis commentator: "One of the reasons Andy is playing so well
> is that, before the final round, his wife takes out his balls and
> kisses them.
> ......Oh my God, what have I just said?"

I think they should give medals for the survivors of this Olympics.

From todays news, it seems there was a random bullet flying through a press tent.  Not sure if I believe that tho.

I can't find the article now, but earlier today the headline "Security chief of Rio Olympics robbed at knife point". He has a security detail of 85000 people and he gets robbed.

Not I said the blind man.

been kinda cool news stories coming out of there though,,,, it's kinda like Rio is a vision of the path the Earth is on.  the self-wrought implosion of Homo-sapiens due to unchecked population growth (or sth like that).

what did they say,,, the water bacteria level was 1.7 million times higher than allowed by US standards ?

I find it difficult to get excited about the Olympics. Some sports I will watch yes, the sports where an Olympic medal is considered the peak.

But Golf and Tennis.No way.

I preferred the Olympics from a few decades ago where it was supposed to be amateur. Of course, track and field were far from amateur, and lots of countries, such as China and Russia, had full time athletes at the games. America done the same with its sport scholarships.

Olympic medals seem to be measured in how much they cost now.

But as with many things, there is no solution for this.

BHGAL:

I like that idea, the "peak" of a young athlete ... great to see or hear of a young gymnast or a fantastic young track person. But when competing with seasoned veteran professionals, kind of takes the thrill out of it for me. I love to see the youngsters excel and could not give a flying fiddlers fuck about the pros. maybe limit participation to one or 2 times at olympics?

or 14-24? equestrian stuff when you are over 60??? excuse me

I think boxing still works on the classic amateur model.  Do well at the olympics, then move into the money by being a pro.

According to wiki - boxing and wrestling. But it depends on the definition of 'professional', as obviously boxers get prize-money for winning (and, sometimes, just for showing up!)

Just a bunch of potentially doped up people this year. There has been arguments between competing athletes about their suspicions and it's only day one. Channel 9 in Australia has completely backed an Australian athlete who called a Chinese swimmer a doped up cheater. This was after the Australian had beat him.

This year is going to be awful... The venue is awful and the people involved are awful.
Go Australia anyway.

I don't mind watching the sports but I get less interested in the Olympics every time it comes around. The obsession with which country wins the most gold medals and everything that goes along with that just seems pathetic to me.

I'm only half following this Olympics because of the huge balls up they made letting Rio host it, and most recently the Chinese butt hurt over their spoiled brat swimmer being called a drug cheat - because he was banned once before for cheating, was being a dick to the Aussie swimmer in the pool so got called out for his previous cheating.

Not really, because most the big names dropped out. But it is a good chance to see some new young blood & new names make some history.

All the flags including the wrong one for China were made in China. I would love to be the fly on the wall to here the real story behind this clown show.
