I got a bucket full of fish and one by one they all died. I was thinking dust settles on the water which could be bad for the fish because they were always putting their mouths at the top of the water. We kept fish living back home for about 5 or 6 years and those fish already had babies so the fish we kept back home were flourishing. How do keep fish alive here in China?
I think you will find it is the quality of the water
Talk to somebody in a pet shop not a street vender and see what their thoughts are
If you by from a street vendor the chances are what ever is killing your fish is being passed on time and time again.
philbravery:
dont forget to airate the water or they run out of oxigen and suffercate
Quality of water will either kill the fish within minutes, or allow the fish to live, When fish break water surface and open mouth, it is either a sign of lack of oxygen in water, or hunger.
I have had aquariums all my life, hand here in China I might have gone overboard. I bought one 2.5 meters long, by 1/2 meter deep and 1 meter high. That thing sits on a console type table, and I do have lots of fishes.
Basic rules are simple, keep water between 30 and 33 degrees C either using heaters in winter or adding ice in summertime. Keep one or two pumps aerating the aquarium, fishes do use oxygen in water and must be replaced, I use two pumps for my size tank. And feed fish once a day, enough food for them to eat within 3 to 5 minutes. If one fish dies, try hard to determine cause, so you will have time to save the rest if a sickness or infection.
Aquariums are a lot of fun, but do require you spent time with them. If you do not, your fishes will constantly die for one of the conditions stated above. Chlorine in water can be removed instantly with chemicals, or allow aquarium pumps to run 24 hours before adding fish.
Why yo want keep fish in bucket 5 or 6 years?. Eat now, get more fish later.
Yup, my neighbors keep cooking and eating them.....
Also to whats been said, clean the tank free of algae, if a fish dies remove it soon as because if the fish is diseased it will be spread in the tank and was the case i would empty to a 1/3 of water and top up with new water.
Dont buy pensioner fish as life span very short as well.
