Q: Anyone been to Fenghuang county in Hunan?

I'm going to Zhangjiajie one week after qingmingjie for a few days (April 11 -18) so I would like to visit some minority village. Fenghuang seems really overcommercialized but Ive seen amazing pics of nearby towns (Furong, Qianyang). Anyone else been there, any advice?

Fenghuang is nice, being over commercialized just means it has a lot of hotels and bars built around it. Just don't go on a holiday... but that's true for any tourist site in China. A high speed train line just recently opened up at a nearby town, so travel to the place is now super easy so maybe its a way more crowded since I last went there.

Nearby traditional towns will have a similar theme if the miao people were able to keep the architecture. It depends on the place, Fenghuang is famous for its river. I've been to Biecheng and even during National week it wasn't overcrowded and had a similar feel to Fenghuang.
