Q: Anyone buy an air purifier machine?

And if so, does it really help?

And which brand and model would you recommend for a standard size apartment?

Thanks in advance.

Agree with icnif77, a few minutes or hours in a room with an air purifier won't change when you die.

nope.  But I do wear a mask some days. I sprang for a Respro, seems to get the highest reviews and looks cool.  but yeah, they are pricey compared to disposable 3M.

icnif77:

Surgical/MD's mask? Do you go to the Bank with mask on it ?

Chinese walk into the Bank with mask on face. They don't bother whatsoever. I am keep thinking how would that looks elsewhere, i.e. in EU or in USA Bank.

I'll try once in EU Bank and if I'll get arrested .... I'll say: 'I am from China ....'

yeah,,,, my students couldn't quite fathom it when I told them mask wearing was quite the rare event in the States. I could see their brains working even harder when I tried to explain that the Po Po wouldn't think much of folks running around all masked-up and looking like something out of a Tarantino film ~

I bought 2 air purifiers. I have a cheap 100$ one that works ok I think?? And I have the dyson cool link tower. Thats fucking awesome. I even tested that myself. It comes with an app for you phone that gives you info for how polluted your air is and other info and you can control it through your phone. I tested by leaving my windows open all day in my apartment and then at night I shut the windows and tested the air with teh app. It was extreme level bad air quality. So, Turned it on and went to bed woke up air was clean. I notice too the difference from coming outside to inside my apartment, it smells clearer in my apartment. Way less dust in my apartment too. And they are around 500-600 $. Oh and the AC works good on it too, keep the room really cool.

Also buy some plants for you place. Japanese peace lilies are really good plant for  your room air quality.. other plants are good for this too, just google best air purifying house plants and a list will come up.

With the plants+ the air filter the air in my apartment the air is excellent. Only down fall is you need you windows closed for it to really work.

Thank you for helpful answer. Do have a lot of plants but will probably invest in an air purifier too.

If you are in china just check out a chinese company who makes them, Should be able to get them pretty cheap and I assume they would be popular in china with the air pollution.

A:No, it's not allowed to work under RP at 2nd job! I'd say, Z visa/RP sponsor can have an objections to your part-time job. I did the same at my English teaching in China and elsewhere, butT ... I casually mentioned at my prime job, some kindergarten or another school asked me to work with them part-time. Then, my Q: "Is that permitted?" ...  Answer from RP sponsor was always "Yes, but you can't be late or miss the classes at our school ..." with my reply: "No, our work schedule has a priority, and I'll arrange classes at kindergarten only in my free time." When I cleared that, I was undertaking any extra teaching hours at other schools and private students in my free time.Sometimes, teachers at my prime job asked me if I'm willing to have some extra classes elsewhere.I accepted after the talk with School's principal. I suggest, you test the felling at your Z/RP sponsor and once you see they don't object, you can work at 2nd job. Keeping your 2nd job as a secret from your employer won't work, 'cause you're laowai and Chinese know exactly what you do in your free time. However, despite your employer's agreement for extra work, you are still in violation of Chinese Labour law, and even if your sponsor agrees to your extra work, you can still get in trouble, because it's clearly written (somewhere ... ) that under Z/WP, one can work only at the Z-sponsor and nowhere else. Penalties ... I'd say, there won't be any warnings and you'll be required to exit China in short Exit time.It never happened to me, so I can't really advice how is when manure hits the fan ...  -- icnif77
